    Re: Warning to headphone users.

Not worried at all since I use good headset at a moderate sound volume.

Many scientists are debating wheter it is worse for your ears if you use headphones. They are still arguing, and have not come to a conclusion yet.

Another thing is, you might be lucky, and live in a house where no neighbours are going to get annoyed from constant war going on in the flat next door.
Not all of us have this luxury. I could not imagine turning up my 5.1 speaker system in the middle of the night...

another thing that you should take into account is that headphones (full ear coverage) are much better for your hearing then earbuds. And it also matters a lot what kind of quality, and volume leveling your headphones are capable of producing.

Is off a volume? Because if it is then that's a safe volume. :p

Of course your hearing degrades naturally over time, just talk to your grandparents or parents if they're as old as mine.

I have a mic, not headphones, and that works excellent for VOIP and for the game. No damage and I get the benefits of VOIP.

I to use a standard mic and speakers, I have no problems with VOIP. If you are trying to use the auto VOIP, then I could see there being a problem, but if you use the mapped key, no biggie, everyone hears me fine.

                Re: Warning to headphone users.

Indeed. Any of these have the potential to destroy your health over the long run or in a few years if abused on a daily basis:

                - spending an hour or more outside with no sunscreen.
                - smoking
                - eating white bread (colon cancer)
                - alcohol (heart disease will kill most of us)
                - overeating (diabetes)
                - blasting headphones

A guy I know didn't want to wear sunscreen on his summer job (pool lifeguard) to get darker. He got a deadly form of skin cancer at 25 years of age, but survived luckily. You don't really think much of these threats, until you know a victim. Another friend of mine got cancer of the larynx at 22 because she smokes, and survived after chimo treatments.

Moderation and health ftw. I eat whole wheat bread at home, but my Quiznos sub is white bread (mmmm).

CS is what worries me the most. I know for a fact that many people raise their volume just so they can hear footsteps accurately. I used to do it too. CS:S is even worse because Valve actually lowered the volume on footsteps, I recall lots of people giving "tips" to turn your volume up in the steampowered forums when CS:S came out.

Whatever. It's only bad for your hearing if you turn it too loud and leave it that way for extended periods.

                      Don't believe the fear mongers.

Dude, if you want to start worrying about something, worry about the Ice Caps(Artic/Antartica), because once they're gone it's over for everyone. Hearing - pffft.

This thread is not about the Ice Caps, troll.

Hell I already have bad hearing, and i'm 16. Playing guitar for the past 6-7 years hasn't helped my hearing much :p

                              And neither has my amp

That's nothing to joke about. You should invest in some ear plugs. Pretty much all professional musicians use them.
