      Re: BF2 Freezes

The good news is that this is not a hard drive issue, It is, as usual, a problem with EA/DICE and the game. It is a specific problem related to conectivity on EA's end. so your computer is fine, EA needs to unscrew themselves. It seems the past two days the people with this problem have multiplied, for some it clears up within an hour, for others a couple of days, this is what I know for a fact as of right now.

Dont waste your time trying to fix thing on your end, try putting in a trouble ticket with EA, I just did I'll let you guys know how it turns out, I cant help but feel this has something to do with 1.4 coming out but that last part is purely speculation.

Thanks for the post, I certainly hope you're right that it's an EA problem. I just got done running some diagnostics on my HD and it passed clean. This is really frustrating, I've never had a game act so bizarrely before. I will also try hitting up EA support for resolution.

thank god i finally found a post about this.. i just started having this problem last night and i was hoping it wasnt my computer.. ea needs to get their stuff right this is pissing me off.. bf2 worked fine since ive had it except for the eventual crash to desktop while trying to join.. i didnt mind that but the fact that i can't play the game because it freezes completely and i have to power off really pisses me off.. i sure hope your right and that it is EA and not my computer

            Re: BF2 Freezes

ya my stuff started to not work last night. I thought it was just a driver issue, so I uninstalled/reinstalled my vcard drivers. But I still got the same lockup issue. So I thought, that it was BF2 and I completely uninstalled/reinstalled it. I was able to play for about 7 or 8 mins then it just locked up and gave me a high pitched sound. This seems to be the only place that I can find that has seen this issue.

I was wondering if maybe it was a punkbuster issue and that we need to manually force it to update. I havent tried that yet, but its going to be my next step. I really hope thats all it is. However you look at it, EA needs to get their ducks all in a row before they release crappy patches. I will never understand why they just didnt roll back the 1.3 to 1.22 until they fixed the problem!

Right click on the drive in "My Computer" and click "tools", hit the button "Check now" and tick the 2 boxes, it might require a restart... Let it check the drive upon reboot, and run the seagate tool afterwards to see if it's still the same.

              Hope this helps...

                  Re: BF2 Freezes

I've been playing for about 4 months now with now problems then last night (Monday night) I tried to play BF2. I was able to play a few minutes on Karkand then Kubra Dam loaded and within 20 seconds of joining it froze.

My computer was "hard locked" in that ctrl+alt+delete, alt+f4, alt+esc, esc, etc, did nothing. The sound repeated every 5 seconds or so but other than that nothing.

It's done that every time since then no matter which map or what I do. Funny enough, single player runs perfectly and I can still play GRAW with no problem.

                  What I've tried:
                  Upgraded to 1.4 beta
                  Updated sound and video drivers
                  uninstalled and reinstalled bf2
                  uninstalled, reinstalled and updated Punkbuster
                  Turned down audio accelleration
Closed all background processes except critical ones
                  updated Directx
Uninstalled a ton of software that I didn't need (in case it conflicted some how)
Turned all settings in bf2 to low
                  Virus scan
                  Spyware scan
                  and more I can't remember

And none of it helped at all!

It must be a problem with EA because it happened so suddenly with no logical reason (I hadn't changed anything), because it's happening to so many people, and because everything else on my side appears to be working perfectly.

I agree with the advise to not try to fix it on your end. Submit a ticket and wait.

                    Re: BF2 Freezes

yeah i have the same problem, but my computer doesnt lock up. everything is the same as being described here, except i freeze up for about 20-30 seconds then get a disconnected from server issue. during the freeze up my comp isnt able to respond (teamspeak and ventrilo didnt work during the freeze) but after 30 seconds it will go back to normal, you'll just get a generic disconnect message. nothing about being kicked or banned or a punkbuster error.

i even had a friend watch what happens to me in game from this, it just says that i leave the server. my issue is the same as everyone elses....if you're still trying to solve this issue, just let it sit for a second when it freezes, because if you're like me you hate doing a power shut down without closing windows and stuff first.

                      Re: BF2 Freezes

Hey guys, I am having the same problem also, I load the game, select a server and after it loads and verifies, 20 seconds in it freezes for about 30 seconds, and crashes to the server selection screen, I have gotten "lost connection to the server" and "pb error file/memory 81301, Kicked for 0 Mins". I have reinstalled bf2 and sf 5 times, each time manually removing the reg files and uninstalling through add/remove programs. I dont know what else to troubleshoot, but everything was fine about 2 weeks ago, I hate to think that the latest pb update has things messed up. Your not alone, I am so frustrated
with this...4 hrs of reinstallation and to no avail.

Same problem here, it sounds like it´s something in BF2, we will just have to wait and see.

Smae thing on my end tried reinstalling 3 times changed vid cards ran all the diagnostics and nothing so I would say with so many people being affected i would say its an EA problem.

Guess we will all have to just wait and see

                            Re: BF2 Freezes

OK, just got off the phone with EA customer support (try not to laugh) they are aware of the issue and have a tech working on my account right now, I highly recommend you put in a trouble ticket with EA or pony up the funds to make a long distance call to their customer support line in california, this is the same phone number in the back of your owners manual, the phone# is for people who live in the usa: 650-628-1005, there is an automated menu then you have to option to speak to an actual person.

as far as what is happening these are the symptoms and how to figure out if this is your problem:

                            SYMPTOMS:

-your game works fine on single player, but if you try to connect to a mulitplayer server your computer hangs for anywhere from 15 seconds to a minute then goes to the server brower and says connection lost. DO NOT START REFORMATING YOUR DRIVES, RELOADING DRIVERS, REPLACE HARDWARE!!! this is not an issue caused by you or at this time correctable by you, this is what I do know as of right now, I highly recommend you put in a trouble ticket with EA or call the phone number listed above, if you live in another country I recommend you look in your game manual for a local customer support number. I have a tech calling me back within a few hours I'll post on here what fixed my problem, if they can fix the problem. hope this helps

Hmm I've let me computer sit there for 20 seconds or so after it freezes, and it doesn't kick me back to the server select screen. Are you saying that this is definitely the only scenario? Either way, I'm quite certain I have the same issue, since mine started Monday night after the PB update as well. I'm at work now so I can't contact EA, I'll hope that they get back to you and you're able to post the results. Thanks for keeping us in the loop =D
