Wouldn't it be nice if EA made their server programs so they wouldn't enable turning off PB? Correct me if it's allready like this on ranked servers, I haven't been playing for a while.

BTW, this would be nice for other games too, like CS (they don't use PB, but they use VAC)...

HOLD A #^%^%# MINUTE. I have just been hardware banned. I am not smart enough to hack. I dont even care to. So as I am reading this I have to buy a new harddrive and new game. I F%$%^# feel like somebody stole all my hardwork. I am so ****ed because I agree with all who say Hackers should be banned..I mean for god sakes if they havent fixed the red blue bug yet, then maybe its a glitch...I guarantee that if something doesnt get fixed I will never play anything again....and if you think about it IT IS ALL HACKERS FAULT because if they didnt exist then we wouldnt have to rely on punkbuster........Signing Off Formerly MSGT RIPPER6. I once got a server ban of punkbuster due to a winamp plug in i got off a bf2 site turned out it had been coded wrong and made punkbuster think it was a multihack .

Anyway i got in contact with PB and they did some tests and hey presto my ban was lifted so thery do understand if its a genuine mistake but a hardware ban means aimbots wallhacks and all the serious hacks..

Actually, that BF2 winamp plugin was coded purposfully with code that was used in a known cheat so that people would get banned whether they were cheating or not.

SO where does that leave me. I mean when I ordered Armored Fury it totally corrupted my bf2 game and had to reload...somethin is flaky. And to permamently Globally ban for something I didnt do...with no appeal? I paid for these games and I pay them to kick cheaters out not ME. They dont even tell me why I got banned. I work to many hours to worry about game hacks I am a mediocre player and I am cool with that. Or I was a mediocre player now im F$^%$#@ history

I have a question for punkbuster servers. I keep getting kicked for ping rate (something I don't think I have control over) - that's not something that will come and bite me in the butt later and ban me for good will it?

If I understand post#4 correctly, it shouldn't but I want to be sure.

No you can't be banned for it. All it is is an auto-script running on some servers, and has nothing to do with PB.

Hello all,

Look, I personally know Ripper6 and he is NOT a cheater. If he was he would score a helluva lot better than me (no offense buddy)! Now, I've mentioned to Ripper that it is possible that his kid might have done something on his PC so far as cheats go because he is afterall a kid. You all KNOW 99.9% of all young kids cheat. I don't think I've met an honest one yet. Part of growing up to maturity is to learn that cheating is wrong and childish. Ripper6 and I have played a long time together now actively trying to improve our personal game as well as our Squad game. Assuming for a second that his son might have done this, it is still totally unacceptable to ban him GLOBALLY for that by tagging the ban to his hardware. This seems highly illegal to me.

Secondly, I want to mention that last week I was playing on a server and was working hard to get my Expert Medic badge. Yes I'm a badge junky because for me it's like reaching a new level in a game- and it gives me a goal. Anyway, I was playing on Mashtuur and was seriously kicking butt. I had an incredible score going for me when I briefly saw a message that looked like it said, "Remshot is hacking." I was too focused playing to get a good read or to screen capture it. I know it wasn't a player chat message because it was a large green font. I certainly do not cheat and this message worries me that I may be the next witch to be burned at the stake. So am I going to be banned because I play so well? Some server admin gonna get ticked off at me because I own him, so he finds a way to ban me maybe even globally?

Jeez guys, wtf am I supposed to do sack my gameplay so that I suck enough that nobody would accuse me of cheating?

And before you bash me, I totally agree with dealing with cheaters. I've respected PB until now. But I think the ban should be restricted on a game-by-game basis and should involve a process of appeal. I mean come on, if your convicted of stealing at Walmart your not globally banned from shopping at any other Walmart. I love the game world FREE of hackers & cheaters, I just think we have to be careful not to go overboard where innocent people start getting punished and those that have at least get an affordable opportunity to change their ways (i.e. buy a new copy of the game).

Remshot just in case you missed, server admins can not hand out hardware bans, those only come from PB. The only way you can get a hardware ban is if you use a hack/cheat that alters how PB works. If Ripper hasn't done so yet, I posted the link a few posts above for where to go to appeal.

Personally I don't find it too harsh when someone gets a h/w ban for using a cheat, sort of guarantees that they won't be around anymore to ruin everyone else's game. Besides that, what's to say they haven't cheated in another game. If it was possibly his kid as you say, it is also entirely possible that he cheated in another game and not BF2.

Thnx Rem for the kind words and Stormy I agree with you IF my son would have used them online to cheat. I have a relatively new harddrive in my PC and there are no other games loaded that use punkbuster. Heck I dont think there are any other games but BF2. Man I hope to god it is not because of my kid. But I will at first give him the "benny" He said the only thing he tried was the code to unlock weapons for single player and only the weapons that u have already unlocked on Multi. That I remember was a hint posted in PC Gamer. Since then Harddrive was reformatted. I appreciate the link Stormy. I will try.
