    Re: Music ingame?

Music is good, I was playing my new Counter-Strike game I got about 2 days ago(Not even close to what BF2 is) and I was on a server that played music is you typed somthing like "music" in. I ended up doing it alot more then what I thought, it was pretty cool though.

P.S.- I wouldn't reccommend buying Counter Strike (Source).

Why not? I love the game (though I love BF2 more ) and I even host my own server. It's fun to build your own maps too (and easier than in BF2?)!

for me, music is a giant distraction when playing games. any sounds other than the game sounds are so distracting for me. its not that i dont like music playing, its the fact that when i play games, i seem to notices all the suttle clicks, whines and other high pitched sounds more offten than if im just listening to the music by itself.

The Command and Conquer soundtracks go real nicely with BF2. For those that complain of "lag", you need more RAM to be able to run winamp and BF2 at the same time.

I play no music so I can be as effective as possible (hearing gunshots and their locations, hearing footsteps, etc...)

I don't think that he wanted opinions, just some help, but I'll respond.

I suppose music isn't for everyone. I mean I'm not about to suggest that if everyone listened to music that they'd be more immersed or more focused. All I know is that with life in general, good music helps me concentrate and while it is true that music may stop you from hearing some of the more subtle sounds of your 'approaching' demise, I found that a 50% music volume still allows me to effectively pin-point missed sniper fire or anything else that I may want to hear (distant artillery fire only annoys me).

Yeah, you probably concentrate better with some music, at least I do.
But are there any players that take up less RAM than others? WinAmp is good but still causes some little lag.

I dont have any problems as my sound comes from my massive stero and i can play music from that and still listen to the bf2 sounds in the background.

Has anyone tried using their MP3 player as an external music player and still have BF2 in the background?
Right now I'm trying to figure out if there is any way I can plug my MP3 player in somewhere and let it run from external power (instead of batteries), which would make me able to play alot longer :)...

                      An important note regarding Winamp:
Make sure that you use the classic skin. It is a lot less memory intensive than the modern skin, and on my PC it uses up about 12 MB of system ram.

                            Re: Music ingame?

Okay. I did this last night. I played for about an hour with my music player in the background. I didn't notice any change in gameplay except that loading times were a little bit longer. There's nothing too spectacular about my computer either. In game, I turned the music down to 0% (which went back to 33% after a CTD). But BF2 music really only comes up at the end of a round anyways.

So I ran my music player, put the volume on it down to about 50%. And I ran the game. My video settings are 800x600 all on high except light (on low), and dynamic shadows (off).

                            Specs: 3.0GHz P4 w/HT, 3Gb PC3200 RAM, 6600GT PCI-e, 800MHz FSB, 200GB SATA drive, Soundblaster 5.1 Live! Platinum (old school).

As for the gameplay, I pretty much played as I usually do. First round, I commanded on Dalian (came in half way through, and only 12 people). I got a whopping 18 points. Next two games were Mashtuur, and I got about 40-50 each of those. Maybe if I make a custom playlist it will make a difference - instead of shuffling my entire music collection. Regardless, it was a nice bonus to hear some good music in the background, and still being able to hear everything in-game too. I will say that Vodniks drown out the music though. Those engines are loud!

It would be nice if BF2 allowed you to play music in-game like BF:V did. Was so awesome getting into transport and changing the radio to a song you liked. Although, the enemy would also hear the music and knew you were coming.

Yes the way they had music in BF:V would work really well. It's just that they would probably have a crappy taste in music.
