you should defrag if you havent already, hard for bf2 to verify when the info is scattered everywhere. alot of the times however the default windows defragmenter does not help that much. that is because the windows version defrags only in the sense that it moves files closer together to eliminate empty space between clusters of data. that is all well and good, but sometimes info of the same program can be seperated, with tons of crap inbetween them. this means the bithead still has to skip around seeking for the seperated info. try o&o defrag. it has a trial version. go through a defrag in complete/name mode. my computer used to be jerky as hell, but when i used o&o, it went back to the way it felt when i first reformatted.

Charles, you completely rock! This reduced my load time from 6 minutes to about 25 seconds. Hot diggity damn!

One thing to note, the subfolder in the registry might not be 0001 or 0002, you just have to search all the subfolders and look for the one that has the "Primary IDE Channel" or "Secondary IDE Channel" in the "Driver Desc" key.

I removed all the servers from my favorets and there is a good improvement on loading time and less lag. I was wondering though. Why is it that everytime that I join a server it is automaticly added to my favorites?

Re: i have the FIX for long load and verifying client data times!

I downloaded the O&O defragger and ran it on my machine.

In my usual SF server there was little change in Loading, VCD time. I guess Im doing the best I ever can with the machine I have here.

I could replace the SATA's with 10,000 RPM drives and 16 mb buffers along with half the seek time of my old Maxtors. Maybe RAID 3 or 4 will boost the data transfer beyond my current 125 mb/sec barrier. I dont know yet.

That cost of the replacement of the RAID drives is very close to a full iRAM kit that promises to instantly load and VCD. Decisions... decisions... decisions...

Is there anyway to disable automatic adding feature? This does help a significanly noticable amount but it gets anoying deleting servers out everyday.

i just use battlefield cleaner from time to time. it not only cleans out my server history, but also my graphics cache, as well as transfer account settings between profile names. http://www.goyk.com/text.asp?id=172

charlesbian, I have no MasterIdChecksum or SlaveIdDataChecksum in any of the folders, what to do?

Also... the time we are all talking about, is that from when you click "Join Game" in the server browser or is it only the "Verifying client data" part of the loading?

it can effect both the load time of the actual game, and the VCD stage. as for not having those values, if you do not have a IDE hard drive type, this will probably not work for you.

Sorry for bumping, someone just linked to this post from another one.

I have 3 identical Primary and Secondary IDE Channels, all of them are already set to DMA. Is that normal?

And I found nothing of what you said to delete in the registry editor:
