Honestly, I could care less about the points aspect, I like the fact the game is drawn way out. No map reloads, no having to start over and make the long runs to the first flag. The feel and dynamic of a HPS is so different, as different as CTF feels. It is great for the change and for the oppertuinity to complete specific requirements. If I really want points, I will take a regular round anyday.

If the maps were all combined and the points were 1,000,000 per team this would be an MMOFPS.

      That would be cool.

The 16/64 servers are not against the rules.
So servers with 16 slots playing large or medium size maps are not against the terms? Because that's what I like. I don't care for the knife/pistol or armor restricted servers. And I play on ones with the 100 ticket ratios, not the jacked up ones.

I was under the impression that "high points" servers just meant servers with like 16 or so slots that were playing large maps with the standard ticket ratio. I didn't know it meant jacked up ticket ratios.

If DiCE had experience in MMOFPS, I think I would like to see BF3 work in that fashion.

EA created the problem themselves by requiring scores of over 100 for some medals, honors, etc.... Then they go and legislate that you cant do that.

Please, its a game where you can Ressurect other "dead" players, Ammo and repair boxes fall from the sky, enemy airbases are adept enough to repair and reload you without landing. Your squad leader can summon you after you die to respawn anywhere on the map he is....

More like Military Everquest if you ask me.......

The ratio of points on a so called "high scoring server" is greater than on a normal server where the map size = the player occupation on full capacity.

              Example:
The 32 Strike at Karkand map played with a full capacity of lets say 50 players would end pretty quickly, played on a 64 sized Karkand map the 50 players would play a better balanced game with a more sensible round length which can be an hour or so long.
Talking purely from experience as we own a 64 player and a 50 player server with both playing 64 sized maps (so i am able to compare stats)...

THE 50 PLAYER CARRIES A MUCH HIGHER AVERAGE SCORE PER HOUR THAN THE 64 PLAYER.

i always thought 'high point servers' were ones with low player count, and large map size, like 20 max, on a 64 sized map, but how can that be when a 64 sized map only requires 10 players to start? i now think it has to do with increasing the ticket count and ratio.......

its illegal because EA/DICE etc say so.....period end of story.....doesnt matter why, it just is......tho i do think it has alot to do with IAR requirements for many awards, making their attainment unbalanced, and easier in these servers, making it 'unfair'

No its illegal if you break the rules, naming your server "Pistol/Knife only" or "Highpoints server" is not illegal.
But when people get kicked by an admin when they use something else like armor or any other weapon then its against the rules.
Atleast that is what I understand when I read the rules, have read them somewhere can't remember where.

Well, it would probably be legal to have a High Points server without advertising it... just set your filters to find them. EA can't stop you from customizing your server.

your talking about 'limiting the role of a player', something completely different than high point servers

In the end, aren't you really almost breaking even? I'm missing what the problem is with these types of servers.
EXACTLY. If you play 2 games on a true high points server, it will normally take about 2-3 hours. If you played 2-3 hours on a normal server, you would probably wind up with just aobut the same, and even possibly MORE points. However, the benefit of high points servers are for awards. Getting 44 kills in a normal 32 man/32 size server can be tedious. However, doing it in a game which will last and hour or so, it makes it much more enjoyable, and possible.

Even for the awards like the Combat Action Medal, where you need 33 minutes in a round . . . playing one round on a high points server; that's all you should really need.

In all honesty, it's not ALWAYS about the points, but about awards as well.

Also, EA, and BF2RS have said themselves, that TRUE high points servers are LEGAL . . . there is NOTHING wrong with hosting or playing on them. However, once the admin says knives only, or no armor, or you can't cap this flag (in order to make the game even LONGER) then it breaks the ROE. Otherwise a normal game of 16/64 size, or any other combination of player to map ratio is NOT frowned upon.

I have to disagree, on average i can score 40-60 points more per hour on a 50 player server than on a 64 player server on the same size maps.
Obviously it does depend on the player and their style of play, but for me personally my score per hour is higher on the 50player/64map size:)
Agree with the rest of what you said :)

EA is the 1 to blame. If they really cared they wouldnt let admins set a max player amount to 16 and let them play on a 64 player server (300 tickets). If you are on a 64 player server and there is only 16-20 ppl, thats 1 thing. To set up a 16 player server on a 64 player map is their fault. Max of 16 players should be limited to 100 tickets. Im not for or against H.P. severs, but if they say you cant do that then they should realize whos letting them do it(EA).

I think the pistols only servers are a blast. I don't know how the badges or scores work and don't care to know. Stats are nothing more than time played. Big deal.
                                I just prefering having fun.
