What's the big deal about "high points" servers?

Ok, correct me if I'm wrong on this, but this is the way I see it. So, you have 16 player slots on a large size (64 size) map. Isn't the only reason that the players end up with high points is because the map takes way longer than if it were running the smaller size map?

In the end, aren't you really almost breaking even? I know the times aren't exact, but isn't it really just the equivalent of saying "do I want to play three 15-minute games or one 45 minute game?" Would the points from those three games pretty much add up to the points from that one long game?

I'm missing what the problem is with these types of servers.

the problem starts when the server admins impose rules such as "only knives and pistols "
other than that there is no problem i can see

ya, i dont see a problem with it. they r fun to play on because u get lots of points cause there r much less ppl. also, cause there is less ppl, it always seems like everyone is much more freindly.

the scores arent that high, usually the high points rounds take ages and in that time u can have the same ammount of points in normal game on multiple rounds.

the problem with those servers is that most of the time they are on karkand and usually that means tank and apc whoring to a point thats ridiculous... but 32 players on 64 sharky can be quite fun with that extra flag.

I dont' think there is a problem with it. But you can score higher by capping flags. If you only have a few players on a large map you can just go around capping flags over and over a rack up a huge score that way.

Makes it a bit easier to meet the requirements for some of the badges and awards.
But IMO on regular sized full servers the maps are over too fast. I don't really like to stare at the loading screen for such a long time again every 15 minutes, plus all the 15seconds I spent ingame watching the spawn screen. So I actually like the idea of high score servers. Even though it does need at least 24 players on a 64 player map in order to be fair and fun. Or else it can easily degenerate into a flagwhoring fest.
I personally am not a big flag taker. I prefer to go for the kills around that area so I find it rather boring when not enough players are on a map, and people are just running for the flags like chicken.

BFROE has a rule against "High Points" servers but doesnt explain what this means... that ambiguity irritates me.

That's really irritating. Some people enjoy smaller games without looking at the loading screen every 10 minutes, including myself. I wish they would clearly define why this is a violation instead of just threatening people for no reason for playing on these types of servers.

It is only a violation if it supports "special" rules such as pisto/knife only, no armor (afaik) and so on.

Thats the point alpha. Did you read that somewhere official? Because on BFROE's list of illegal activity, along with "Pistol and Knife Servers" is "High Point Servers"... as if we are supposed to know what criteria they use to define what the heck that is...

                    Currently it reads as such...

§1.8 Players may not use or exploit game mechanisms to artificially boost their score ("stats padding") and Server administrators may not knowingly allow or encourage this activity on their servers.

This would include but not limited to:
                    § Knife-Pistol-Revive
                    § Knife-Pistol only Servers
                    § Knife only Servers
                    § High Points Servers
                    § Infantry only Servers
§ No Artillery or Armour Servers
§ Using Vehicles removed from battlefield for purposes of artificially inflating points
§ Turning boats upside down and repairing
                    § Glitching inside buildings.
§ Modifying game files for vehicles and weapons.
§ Items not included in this list would be up to EA & DICE to interpret.
§1.9 Players may not Impersonate or abuse BF2RS ADMINS.

When I'm right (if not correct me) with high point servers they mean servers with a ticket ratio higher then 100, for example ticket ratio of 200 or 300 thats what it makes it against the BFROE.
The 16/64 servers are not against the rules.

I play on so-called "high point" servers when I need to earn those ridiculous badges that need certain amounts of kills in a round. Let's create an example.

                        I earn an average of 75 points in a 64-player Karkand-64 round. (A)
                        I earn an average of 225 points in 24-player Karkand-64 round. (B)
I can play 3 games of type A in the time it takes me to play one of type B.

Let's say I need to earn a badge (Expert Ground Defense, for instance), that needs an unusually high amount of in-game kills to obtain. I have a MUCH greater chance (300%) of getting those kills in a type B server than a type A server.

Agreed, the people that made the rule don't understand some of the logic I feel, or they made a hasty desision. I love HPS sometimes. But, I personally know I do myself a great disservice. I average about 75 points in a round playing medic infantry on a 64/64 server. But in the time I could have finished a round in an HPS, I figured up (some months ago) I was loosing about 100 points because the time it took from a 20 minute round vs a HPS round.
