I actually do fairly often, but thats when I defend (which is my favorite thing to do I might add). I clay the enterences and snipe people before they can get close enough to even use the claymores =) Otherwise Im more of a close range sniper (GASP! That supposidly isnt possible!) and Im usually at the front of my squad.

Yup, I'm the same. Very good video mate well put together! Both long range snipers and CQC snipers have immense usefulness on the battlefield, maybe you guys just have never played sniper that much or are s hit at it??

Wow, nice vid, dBs. I love seeing BF2 gameplay videos (especially the first-person ones). They get me in the mood to go play some more, although the 'There is a problem with your connection.' messages followed by the dump back to the server browser quickly finishes that mood, but oh well. :p

Out of curiosity, what kind of pings do you get to the server you play on? Some of those shots, like that one at the South Base on Wake where you headshotted that USMC guy sprinting laterally, you didn't even need to lead, which when your target is at a full sprint is almost unheard of. Myself, I get around 30-50 ping on the EA WC servers where I play, and there's no way I would have gotten a hit on that shot. Plus some of those moving vehicle kills were pretty good too without much leading at all.

Still, some really good pwnage there. Even though there are probably hundreds of BF2 sniping videos out there I still like watching 'em. I guess because it's always a collection of all the good moments where guns actually hit where they're pointed instead of leaving a puff of dust like they seem to more often than not. I like the shots where only the top of the head was visible.

And those no-scope shots. You seem to be quite lucky with those. That one on Karkand by the Suburbs was funny, because even though the soldier died you could see the puff of smoke on the wall behind and to his right. Must have been a ricochet shot.

                Re: Calling all snipers...

Snipers have their uses as a recon and defence class. The claymores will stop rambo's pretty easily, and with the rifle you can kill anyone trying to take an exposed flag without them being able to kill you.

People saying that it takes no skill because its a point and shoot matter, i'd like to see them hitting a moving target at the edge of the fog. I dont understand the mentality, where is the skill in proning and spraying the guy across the street with your g36c? Please.. :S

Dunno, I usually get pritty average ping. I jump around servers a fair bit though a lot of that footage was on the xSSx clan server and on the =sKs= clan server. I think my ping usually ranges between 30-60 with the occational spikes to 80. If you look closely at the MEC main base roof snipe to the tank gunner on Karkand youll notice that the tank jumps around when I do the shot (that one was definantly luck shot), so that moment was pritty laggy lol.

                    Re: Calling all snipers...

After reading all 6 pages, I can only say that snipers aren't bad. I agree that they "might" be #7 on the list, but again, it all depends on the situation. I'm at the point, a year later in the game, where I don't care about points anymore. With 2142 coming and knowing it will take me months to gain a new rank, I play more how I feel is best for the team.

Sniping for me, well... I just chill in the back and watch my buddies cap flags, it's good to have the eyes they need around that corner. I either spot them, mess em up really bad, or kill them all together.

Now in that particular "situation", I find a "good" sniper very effective. And it just so happens that that "situation" is the most common in bf2: capping/defending flags. So I dunno, I guess it's a matter of perspective. Now, I'm no sniper whore, I have well over 100 hours as a medic, because since the demo, I have always felt like being the Squad Leader/Reviver, cause I play with a tight group of RL friends. We need to stay alive.

But I digress. Point is, all classes are awesome. It's really about who's behind the keyboard, what specs they have for their pc, and of course, their mouse.

I have a Logitech G5 and I wouldn't trade it for the world. Of course my KDR isn't the greatest but hey, I'm a medic most of the time, I'm not here for uber kills. When I want to rape people that bad, I'll just go play Call of Duty 2.

                    Peace.

                        Re: Calling all snipers...

Many snipers are useless, but same goes for Mr support and Mr medic, not giving out ammo or health, only spamming that pkm or hunting for revives even when under fire. Mr specops is suppost to be killing commander assets, but instead he's running around getting his ass tk'ed because he needs to hump the exaust of enemy tanks while friendlies are shooting at it with rockets.

Long story short, snipers are usefull, if the player knows what he's doing. Snipers are cool, sneaky, the one shot one kill type thing and all. The contant hopping, instaprone g36c spamming bores and frustrates me to death. Hey, if you want to jump into a wall of campers with your bad ass assault weapon be my guest, but dont forget to thank me as i pop all the MG gunners before they can shoot you.

Nah, the round went right through the guy, in fact, I'm not sure part of the barrel didn't as well!

Hes reffering to the one near the suburb at karkand (not the train accident one). That one I slow motioned it to the frame when it hit him and it barely hit him in the elbow. The shot your talking about is the one when the other sniper is running past me. The reason I hit him was because of the property in this game where your weapons projectile actually shoots from the midsection of your body as opposed to the riffle barrel itself. The point at which I fired he was still infront of my midsection so he got hit as opposed to being in front of my barrel =)

Strong argument to its contrary is easy. First off, any kit, no matter how gloriously deadly, is worthless if they dont defend or attack a flag when its turning. Second, the fact that you only die 1 out of 5-8 times by sniper doesnt symbolise the lacking abilities of the sniper class, it could also mean that there simply arent that many snipers that play in comparison to the rest of the opposing team (Im sure at that time in the game it was particularly true). Just how often do you get killed by an engineer afterall? Third, sniper class is importent due even to the simple fact that the other team has snipers themselves. Most oftentimes (especially after the needed accuracy upgrade) its only a sniper that can kill a sniper but a sniper can kill just about anyone, especially if there a decent shot (and those do exist). Fourth, I dont think its just me but I know that I have completely stopped the advances of entire squads (yes working together) by myself because I am a decent shot and can hit them and kill them even while running thus forcing them to stay under cover and not be able to advance at all. If need be this buys me adequate time to get backup or to simply slow thier movements. Furthermore, its a very demoralizing kit for the other team. If a good sniper is picking off people left and right youll notice a behavioral change in the opposing team, they will avoid ANY open ground at all.

The sniper kit is primarilly a defensive kit, intended to keep a flag cleared as they can pick people off from a long way so they dont even get a chance to get close (even in the smaller vehicles). Not many people are fast or accurate enough to do sniping at close range but they do exist and believe me they are the most lethal on the team because they have the most powerful infantry gun in the game period.

I also noticed that it was you who made that post.

Yes, there are certain snipers that do that but I can think of a few that do that and could wipe out a whole squad by doing it. You guys dont seem to appreciate what a big role a sniper can play in a squad.
                              Great post.

I've recently in the past few days had rounds (one where my k/d ratio at the end was 26/14, another 28/12) using the sniper kit where all I did was run around right in front with everyone else sniping, dropping clays where I knew the enemy would be running to approach the base and capping flags. (on 24/7 Wake Island and Gulf of Oman servers too I might add)

Sitting on a roof is boring and a lot of the time earns less kills; being among the action is more exciting and a lot more rewarding more often than not.
