When do you zoom your weapons?

I've gotten in the habit of zooming my guns all the time. I'm not so sure that's always best, even at close range.

I would like to know when's the best time to zoom your gun (everything but the sniper obviously). Of course at medium to long range you have to, but what about close quarters battle?

    Thanks

I usually do it for medium range (10-50 meters) for every kit except the engineer kit mainly because it has mostly shotguns in the kit and I'm usually in armor when I am an engy.

For close up stuff I typically don't right click since there is a crosshair already in the game and at that point it's spray and pray :p .

I rarely zoom, unless Im in a really long distance engagement and I have the M16 (awesome, underrated weapon). I love its sights and its accuracy never fails me. I used to zoom all the time, but found that even with iron sights, weapons accuracy fails me way too often, so I better die with an unzoomed gun, than a zoomed one :P

I zoom all of the time except for super close range. But I'm using the super inaccurate P90.

I do notice that other players using the more powerful and accurate weapons do NOT zoom their weapons, and as a result, they can kill me during the 1 second that it takes to zoom the weapon.

            Them's the breaks.

Always zoom, cuz i mostly use the MG36 and G36E. Anyways, all i see other people do is dive for the decks (go prone while running), and try to shoot me. Anyways, i agree that the M16 is super-underated, everybody is too caught up in the G36E, and guns like htat.

50+ i like the crosshair.. more in closer combat... it makes the perfect shot between they eyes much easier

Exactly. I was just about to post about this but thought it sounded like a thread going nowhere so picked this thread to hijack instead :-) I zoom for practically everything as I've got into the habit and it's meant to help but I keep getting killed by people before I've even finished zooming. Zooming is second nature to me but I lose out so damn often.

Example. An enemy and me spot each other simultaneously about 100 yards apart. I start to zoom and watch helplessly as he goes prone, rolls over and takes me out with a perfect headshot from 100 yards away. How are people that good, I just don't get it.

Re: When do you zoom your weapons?

Most people who complain "I shoot the guy and then he turns around and kills me in one shot" fired from the hip and missed the kill because of it.

Basically, the only time I DON'T use the iron sights is when I have a mobile (standing or crouching) and close enemy (10m) that sees me. Every other situation, it makes so much more sense to put your shots ON target and take them down before they know what is happening. Crouch and zoom is a quick and deadly way to kill an unsuspecting enemy.

Re: When do you zoom your weapons?

I typically zoom. Depends on how quickly I can react. The longer the distance, the higher probabilty I'll zoom. In close combat (1v1), I find myself using the pistol a lot more than other weapons, in which case I don't zoom. I'd ballpark it to say ~70% of my shots are zoomed.

When I play support, I probably shouldn't zoom because of the zoom deviation modifier of 1. That seems to throw off the accuracy a lot. I still zoom out of habit. And looking at pistols, they only have a .5 zoom deviation modifier, which would suggest to use zoom.

Is this true? It is more accurate to fire support weapons unzoomed?
I thought that "zooming" would decrease deviation (aka improve accuracy) for every weapon.

It doesn't increase accuracy on the first shot, but I believe it reduces recoil, so unless you're going to go single-shot with the support guns you should still zoom.

Heh yeah that sounds like a typical day for me, too. I always wonder how I manage to die instantly from a rolling spec ops guy with his G36E, but then I just figure his guns don't deviate (when I aim at the head with a sniper rifle on someone who's prone I somehow manage to miss half the time, but he can do it with an AR) like mine do. Or usually I just blame lag or shoddy hit detection. That's pretty much they only way I can sleep at night.

As for zooming, I don't zoom at close range, unless the target doesn't see me and I have time to stop and aim. Otherwise I just shoot from the hip, and it works well enough. At longer ranges I'll zoom and single shot, but from then on it's all up to whether or not BF2 wants to score a hit for me. Usually it doesn't because BF2 hates me. :p

                              something i learned:

it is actually more inaccurate while zoomed. All weapons (besides the sniper rifles) have a higher recoil when using the iron sights...

just a little tid-bit of info for ya
