What do you want BF2 to be?

Do you want it to be a game that requires virtually no skill in order to play? Do you want to gain the ranks and awards with the most minimal of effort? Would you be more interested in the game if there were no competition at all?

I've been reading countless threads for the last 6 months about balance this, fix that, spammer this, hopping and diving that, etc. etc. It gets to the point where I am sure a lot of people are sickened with that. It makes no sense to me why someone would ask for a specific change to the game instead of asking for a bug to get fixed. Actually, it's more along the lines of mental retardation. Maybe some things do need to be balanced a bit, but that should not be more important than the real problems

It almost seems that no one is really concerned about:
    -Crashing to desktop
    -Looping sound bugs
-Patches that almost always require a complete reinstallation of the game
    -Invisible/disappearing missiles
    -Real map glitches (Karkand)
    -Lack of content and variety
-No visible collaboration with punkbuster to try and slow down cheats

The booster packs have done nothing but create segregation between the players in the community. The ones that cannot wait to throw the $10 burning a hole in their pocket for another couple of maps and the ones that said “No thanks, I’m not falling for that one again”.

Some of the most useless changes ever made in my opinion are:
-Limiting the rockets on the choppers
-Limiting the distance of the TV missiles
-Eliminating Squad Cycling (nice move to destroy teamwork in public servers)
-Vehicle drops (WTF were they thinking)

Another thing that is just ridiculous is the amount of people saying "Hey this is an exploit remove it". People like to throw that word around too carelessly. Look what has happened with squad hopping. I don’t care what EA says about it really, it was not an exploit. I thought it made the game a bit faster paced if anything. It was a hell of a lot more fun when the game moved at a faster pace compared to the way it is now. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy the game, but I hate seeing the way it has been butchered over the last few patches based on what the real whiners are asking for. Their reasoning and logic is "they changed the game, get over it and adapt". Well that sounds pretty damn hypocritical because they insisted the game be changed when they were not able to do just that very thing. It's one thing to complain about a real exploit (Karkand), but it is quite another to complain when it’s a matter of inexperience. You cannot patch yourself into being more skilled and you certainly cannot patch a gamer with no ethics or sense of fair play.

I know that BF2 is not meant to be as fast paced as say Unreal Tournament or anything; but at the same time, I don't want to see it turned into a freaking turn based shooter/real time strategy game either. This is a FPS, not Final Fantasy FFS! My major complaint is that the changes made to the game were hard coded into the game itself and not left as options to be applied at the server owner’s discretion. Most people ponied up $100 for a game that is nothing like the demo and arguable has more bugs now than it did before. Not to mention the big bucks that the server owners are paying every month to give you a place to play. Now EA is offering open beta testing for their patches and people are still b!tching. Wow!
So, what do you want BF2 to be?

I see where you’re coming from. I feel that this is the way that things are going to be, I can appreciate that people want to be able to pick up and play BF2, but their needs to be some depth for people that are playing pretty much day in and day out.

I agree I'd much rather see bug fixes well before, they think about balancing things. I still see a few CTD posts in the BF2 Support Forum, most have died out probably because people that have been experiencing these problems have given up and are waiting the next patch.

As for looping music, I've never noticed a thread about this, but I have not doubt one is out there, and I experience this all the time, after about 10 minutes it get rather irritating.

The rest of your points, I couldn't agree more.

The booster packs are just an attempt for EA/Dice to fill their pockets some more for as little cost as possible. I agree they killed the teamwork (which to my knowledge was a main of aim in BF2 originally) when they got rid of squad cycling, I noticed a considerable drop in pace.

Personally I use exploit in to describe Stat Padding and Map Glitches (Karkand Hotel). I can't say I've seen it thrown around, but if people are calling unbalance exploits then they are seriously mistaken.

I agree 100% with you, the first time I read your sig I totally agreed, some people jsut don't have common decency to each other in BF2, I don't spawn rape, because it annoys me when its done to me. I can't stand people who spawn rape me earlier in a game, and when some on is spawn camping them, they mouth of. How hypocritical can you get.

Its unbelievable how people that are renting servers are being treated by EA/Dice. Patch 1.3 screwed them over the most by far. I want BF2 to be a fun fast paced (not at the extent of UT) teamwork based FPS.

I agree with you that bug fixes should be 1st priority. I disagree with your diagreements on gameplay changes.

The only issue I have with BF2 gameplay changes so far are- TV missile range against AA range and ATA missile situation, plus the J10 problem.

Figures you would have thought it to be that. It's actually more of a generalized observation based on the last 6 months of posts. It's usually the same people over and over posting the same type of sh!t. The only thing they really do is change the wording of their posts but ultimately it is the same thing.
As far as the changes to gameplay go, a learning curve is a healthy thing for a game like this. It provides a challenge, just like when you are trying to learn to fly a chopper or jet.

I, like many others, would like EA to address the REAL problems instead of trying to hold our attention to Armored Fury or vehicle drops, and stalling so that we forget about a patch that will fix all the real problems (which, by the looks of it will never happen). This game had, and still does have, a lot of potential. But at the rate EA is killing it, no shock paddles are going to be able to revive it.

That is so true. I have read countless posts of inexperienced players whineing about various things. They call nerf when all they have to do is something as simple as think and adapt.

I know this from a first hand perspective, I changed the way I played months ago and greatly improved my skill at this game.

What I really want from BF2: A game not stunted by technical issues.

Re: What do you want BF2 to be?

Any bugs/glitches back in the glory days of BF2 were offset by the fun game play. I want BF2 to be how it was back in 1.2 atleast. And i would like the support to be how it was when this game came out pretty much. Something that actually takes skill, i was good with it back then, and it felt great to be the only one on a server doing good with support. I would love it if it was back that way.

no, but im pretty damn sure that you do. everything you are bitching about is a change that requires more skill from the player.

well, balance is just as important as bugs as long as the game is stable enough, which it is, at least for me. the j10/f35 situation still needs to be adressed.

although this is true, its definitly a step forward compaired to special forces which segregated things even more.

-limiting rockets was a good move, it makes an attack heli crew utilize the tv guided missile.
-i agree about the distance for the tv missile, i think instead of blowing up it should just keep flying straight uncontrolled
-squad cycling didnt destroy teamwork, it just made it so squad leaders have to play smart, and squads have to suppot them. if you think that squad cycling has anything to do with real teamwork, you are a nooblet.
-vehicle drops were a great move and i request/recieve them all the time.

the only other thing that shouldnt have been changed is the ability to destroy claymores.

if its not an exploit its bad game design. you make a squad system, then you make it so that system doesnt matter, because you can just cycle, so why not just make everyone a squad leader in the first place, if you dont want the game to require tactical skill.

by this logic i could suggest anything on the forums, and they would do it to the game. thats not how it works, they actually consider our ideas yes, but they have brains man, they are trying to make it a balanced, fair and fun playing experience for all.

Comeon man, little heat on a forum discussion isnt bad. You put some serious ideas and content behind your post. The deeper you go yourself, the more serious the opposition will be.

On topic- as an observer, I see DICE working on two fronts, both in need for serious attention. Bug fixes and balance issues. Cant really blame them for trying to create a well balanced atmosphere (that doesnt need heavy teamwork) so that majority can enjoy the gameplay. As far as bug fixes go, I really never have had any problems with red tag bug, it happens rarely and it rarely affects my gameplay, if it affects it at all.
