Do you want it to be a game that requires virtually no skill in order to play? Do you want to gain the ranks and awards with the most minimal of effort? Would you be more interested in the game if there were no competition at all?
I've been reading countless threads for the last 6 months about balance this, fix that, spammer this, hopping and diving that, etc. etc. It gets to the point where I am sure a lot of people are sickened with that. It makes no sense to me why someone would ask for a specific change to the game instead of asking for a bug to get fixed. Actually, it's more along the lines of mental retardation. Maybe some things do need to be balanced a bit, but that should not be more important than the real problems
It almost seems that no one is really concerned about:
-Crashing to desktop
-Looping sound bugs
-Patches that almost always require a complete reinstallation of the game
-Invisible/disappearing missiles
-Real map glitches (Karkand)
-Lack of content and variety
-No visible collaboration with punkbuster to try and slow down cheats
The booster packs have done nothing but create segregation between the players in the community. The ones that cannot wait to throw the $10 burning a hole in their pocket for another couple of maps and the ones that said “No thanks, I’m not falling for that one again”.
Some of the most useless changes ever made in my opinion are:
-Limiting the rockets on the choppers
-Limiting the distance of the TV missiles
-Eliminating Squad Cycling (nice move to destroy teamwork in public servers)
-Vehicle drops (WTF were they thinking)
Another thing that is just ridiculous is the amount of people saying "Hey this is an exploit remove it". People like to throw that word around too carelessly. Look what has happened with squad hopping. I don’t care what EA says about it really, it was not an exploit. I thought it made the game a bit faster paced if anything. It was a hell of a lot more fun when the game moved at a faster pace compared to the way it is now. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy the game, but I hate seeing the way it has been butchered over the last few patches based on what the real whiners are asking for. Their reasoning and logic is "they changed the game, get over it and adapt". Well that sounds pretty damn hypocritical because they insisted the game be changed when they were not able to do just that very thing. It's one thing to complain about a real exploit (Karkand), but it is quite another to complain when it’s a matter of inexperience. You cannot patch yourself into being more skilled and you certainly cannot patch a gamer with no ethics or sense of fair play.
I know that BF2 is not meant to be as fast paced as say Unreal Tournament or anything; but at the same time, I don't want to see it turned into a freaking turn based shooter/real time strategy game either. This is a FPS, not Final Fantasy FFS! My major complaint is that the changes made to the game were hard coded into the game itself and not left as options to be applied at the server owner’s discretion. Most people ponied up $100 for a game that is nothing like the demo and arguable has more bugs now than it did before. Not to mention the big bucks that the server owners are paying every month to give you a place to play. Now EA is offering open beta testing for their patches and people are still b!tching. Wow!
So, what do you want BF2 to be?
Note: If you have nothing intelligent to contribute go elsewhere, don't even bother posting.
