They don't sit empty now. They're still used for they're intended purpose which is transport. They're just no longer whoring it up on Mastur thank god. The noob toob, C4 frisbee tossing and blackhawk whoredom are out and are gonna stay that way.

Yup, I'd like to see some firepower restored to the 'ol 'Hawk. I miss the teamwork involved in doing 'hawking runs. We used to have great fun calling targets, landing troops, doing stand off fire support, etc etc. Now it's simply get where you need to go ASAP and get the fraq outta the flying coffin before you get smacked outta the air.

The problem with transport weapons is that it's very hard to aim them directly from a moving bird. They need to have splash damage to help overcome lag and tracking issues.

For the skycow, I've suggested that maybe what it really needs is an auto-grenade launcher, kinda like this:

Give it a relativly slow rate of fire and only able to pump out 6 or so shots before overheating. That should make it a balanced piece of hardware that would be effective without being dominant. Best of all, since the weapon is based on existing game elements, all that would be required to implement it would be a single model and a couple scripts. Sounds, animations, and weapons effects are all already done.

Actually, that's a full load of tracers in that vid. Normally only every 10th round is a tracer, but for the demonstration they all are. It just looks cooler.

Im not calling for them to be all powerfull like they were before, the fact that people have to get out to cap a flag is a major deterrant, just that they would have less splash damage. I also argue that there should be a reason why MEC would want to use theirs.
As a guy said earlier, and I totally agree, DICE nerfs everything too much. That is why no one plays assault or spec anymore, too many more patches and it will be impossible to kill anyone with anything, everyone will be running around with godmode on, they will nerf dieing.

I never liked Mashtuur until the Black Hawk was toned down. Now I realize it is a decent map after all. It's absurd when a BH crew of 6 dominates the map while 24 out of 26 other USMC members do jumping jacks at the landing pad waiting for their shot at the chopper. And almost invariably USMC still won. The lowest scoring chopper crew member typically had 2x the points of the highest scoring MEC member. I agree the guns could use a slight boost in accuracy but that's about it.

It is far better today than the way it use to be. Odd how so many lambast jets but are fine with the old flying fortress BH that was near impossible to take down with any sort of repeatable success (short of ramming). Camping two vodniks at a flag and waiting is not really what I would call a repeatable strategy. Anyone who claims easy take downs is being disingenuous at best. I think they miss the point farming opportunities of hanging out in the backseat of the BH; balance be damned.

Dear god, why? People scream about splash damage, so the solution is to employ explosives? You don't need an AGL, just give the MI-8 and Z-8 a pair of Russian made GShG 7.62 miniguns. Bam! Problem solved.

I dont think anybody is crying, we are simply making suggestions and giving our opinions about how to fix the problem with transport helos.
Comments like this add nothing to the discussion, only prove how you missed the point.

What are you guys talking about? Personally I think the blackhawk is just as fun as it used to be. I think it was easier to kill other people the way it used to be. Maybe that's what you guys are missing. How easy it was to do things. To just sit and wrench while your buddies toss an infinite amount of grenades out and minigun everyone they see. I think it's freakin easy to get a kill with the minigun still.

Missing the fun you had in the blackhawk? Get in a squad and get back to it! The only reason you're missing out is because you're making yourself. Just go do it you can still have fun.

If I had my way I would just double the armour on the transport helos and leave the damn guns alone. Might help balance Wake etc as well.

Indeed. What good does a transpot helicopter do if it gets shot down before reaching the target. I accept the weapons being ****poor, and just being there for decoration, but for gods sake, give it enough armor to reach spot A to spot B!

Man, you guys just have NO idea how to use those choppers.

My squad and I seem to have no trouble with the Blackhawk or the MEC/China variants.

If the BH had not been so overpowered to begin with, we wouldn't even be having this discussion. Too many no-skill players were able to jump in the BH for an invincible high point round. They got used to it. They even TK'd one another for it. They were addicted to it. Now they miss it.

                          Too bad.

Sure, I think the transport choppers need more ARMOR...do they ever. But those mini-guns were just inappropriate for a game that requires balance.

The guns on the MEC chopper work JUST the same as the mounted MG on a tank or jeep. You don't hear people calling those guns useless. The BH mounted guns still kill people...trust me. Now, it just takes a skilled pilot to keep the chopper steady and a gunner with SKILL! *GASP!*

I use the transport choppers for transport and attack choppers for attacking. I don't use jeeps for attacking and tanks for transport.

If people wouldnt spawn only on the carrier transport choppers wouldnt be needed anyway (in most maps). They are good for the opening few minutes to cap a few flags in advance. Nobody even realizes that BHAWKS could be used to take soldiers from one flag on the land to another, just like on a jeep. Crazy idea, huh? But with the limited armor they have, they just cant funfill that role!

Additionally, to Talus, I find it very amusing how people look at "rock paper scissors" balance idea immediately get tunnel vision. Sometimes, it needs two pieces of paper working together to cover the rock, one isnt enough. Its not only one one one (me me me), in a squad based game is us us us.

This is not a valid point until tanks fly 100's of feet in the air at twice their current speeds, have a field of view 1/3 the size of his armspan and the tank gunner engages at the distances a transport helo does. Until then its just bunk and nothing more.

Going by this logic we should dump the blackhawk's miniguns and make the gunners use their pistols. After all, they're the best anti-infantry weapons on the ground, surely they'll perform just as perfectly in the anti-infantry role in the aerial arena
