The latter explanation i can buy, but the former is BS, if you ask me.
Even if someone did spot him for you, there are still some suspicous things. First, your gun was RIGHT on him the whole time. It is hard to get that kind of accuracy from the minimap (where the spot would show up) and to do so you would have to be staring at the minimap and the minimap alone.
This presents a few problems. First, it would mean that you could only track him in 2-d while your clearly do so in the third dimension. On top of that, if you were following the mini-map, it would be incredibly difficult to know right when he comes over the hill and you shot him the instant he came over the hill.
Now, of course, none of this is definite proof on it's own. . . but if we think of converging evidence, it is pretty damning.
