Yeah, but you can't just hang out in the AA... get killed ... and then be ****ed.

You shouldn't just sit in the AA like that.

AA is PERFECT how it is... if you keep getting killed, it's because you sit in the AA.

Wait until the jet passes over you, then aim and shoot. Not the other way around.

I've had success at shooting jets as they circle the base or do other wild maneuvers. The trick is to shoot ahead of the target. Not only that but you must fire your missiles immediately. Like I said about the jets, you don't have to wait for the full lock on sound to commence, your missiles guide themselves in midair so long as you fire the missiles during the first lock tone. This works wonders on attack choppers as it allows you to hit them before they shoot out their flares.

Know what it still takes a lot of skill to fly F35B. I hate it when those damn noobs get in a J10 and shot you down easly. They better fix the J10! Make it's missles the same as F35B! So they don't stcik to F35B like to some magnet!

I can't belieave some people voted no?! Must be some J10whore who's worried he'll loose his high points.

And get owned in the skies.

I think they're ok as-is, not over powered and still effective enough.

          Keep them the same :)

A2A is ********. maybe that is why people fly the f18 and j10, so they dont have to put up with all the ******** a2a missiles that are lock, spam, get a kill. :|

none, it should be changed to 1.2 accuracy, which was, if you get a clean lock, it should hit, no matter the jet

                  I'm MrBenis and I APPROVE this message!:box:

All those pricks who got their 75 kills 0 deaths, I took them out like the weaklings they truly are..

It's not BAD now, but AA lock needs a range increase.. jets get to spot targets at like 600m, AA only DETECTS at 350m.. basicly, if your joe-average is sitting in his IGLA aiming at a jet, the jet will engage and win (cannon fire) long before AA lock even precipitates!

As for A2A.. on the rare occasion I bother to fly, I use cannon in bomber mode to whittle them down, and only switch to missles if I'm in a hurry.

I play ww2 flight simulators, dogfights can be tedious, but at least more interesting than locking some fool and wasting him in 2 missles.

I think the missiles are fine as they are. They hit 50% of the time which is a nice balance to me. The J-10 dominates because of it's maneuverability, thie missile code for both the Sidewinder and Archers are exactly the same.

The only changes I would like in BF2 are slower missiles. Would make getting chased by a missile a lot more fun, not to mention cooler looking for anyone watching.

Be glad none of the Air-to-Air combat is anything realistic, you'd be shot down before you even saw the other pilot in real life.

This technique still works wonders. And they upped the missiles because ground-based AA was useless before 1.2 (which ruined the balance of the game). Stop whining and suck it up.

I actually kinda liked 1.2 (I'm a total airwhore) because it made flying jets that much more difficult--forced pilots to up their game. The problem is that I've been flying for almost a year now and can deal with that--someone who just bought the game wouldn't have a chance. That's why they backed off on the missiles, because 1.2 just wasn't practical for anyone but ace pilots.

The missiles are the same. It's actually not that they need to fix the J-10 so much as they need to fix the hitbox on the F-35 so it's not a total deathtrap. Check it out: http://www.totalbf2.com/forums/showt...erburner+timer

Decrease ATA lock range, keep their high maneuverability and increase the lock time. Reduce the speed and their lifetime, so a pilot actually could outmaneuver them perhaps?

Re: Air to Air missile changes must be reverted.

Two Things that need to be changed to make BF2 better.

1st - The thing that bugs me the most is my A2A missles dodging around or going through helicopters, with no flares dropped and them not evading.

2nd - Taking more than 2 ground AA missles to shoot down a helo. 2 missles should take down any helo.

The best way to fix the Aircraft problem is to make it so planes can rearm by flying low and slow over airfield. Make it so they have to land to repair. Give the AA a slightly farther lock on distance. If you see them you should be able to lock on.

Re: Air to Air missile changes must be reverted.

They don't need to revert the changes, they need to scrap the whole system and start from scratch. I've said it a hundred times now. Creating an AA system that requires you to line up your target and keep them perfectly in your sights for the missile to track. That change of course would be coupled with an increase in range to balance them out a bit better. That and adjust the lock zone to make it smaller, but bottom line is missiles will become more effective in the hands of a skilled player with a true aim, as they should be. Planes should have a similar lock system as well, but with a slightly larger lock zone and/or slightly faster missiles to compensate.

That is of course only one small part of the equation, they then need to balance out the jet handling characteristics. I've yet to be shot down by another plane while in the J-10 since the 1.2 patch however plenty of J-10 have killed me while in crap aircraft like the F-35B.

Just yesterday I had a game on Dragon Valley where I fired a total of 28 missiles at a single J-10 pilot over the course of a game (I counted them, sadly) and every single missed, I finally resorted to following this newbie with this cannons on bomb mode to kill them. He on the other hand caught me once at random from behind, fired 2 missiles at me, and both hit and destroyed me. I'm clearly the superior pilot yet he was able to shoot me down with ease. Fact is the airplanes are currently the most unbalanced aspect of this game right now. Hell I've played plenty of Gulf of Oman games and they all ended roughly the same with me shooting down the F-35B 10-20 times in a single game without dying once in the bomber, I mean for christ sakes what's wrong with DICE? I don't even bother flying the fighter on the map as even the bomber can out fly the sad little F-36B.

I'm fairly confident however even though DICE has followed bits of advice in the past they won't listen to me this time, even though it's the wise thing to do and these suggestions are coming from one of the most skilled and experienced pilots in BF2.

They actually work now but they are a bit cheap (whole nother topic). The one thing though that I cannot understand is why DICE changed the air to air missile code. Before they changed it, it used to take skill to kill someone with your missiles. You could chase someone around for a whole round without getting a good enough lock to land some missiles. I used to have a technique where I would sneak up and sniff the exhaust of an enemy pilot while shooting unguided rockets at them. I don't even have to do that anymore. Now any noob can get behind someone and fire all of his missiles and hit you no matter wtf you do to get out of the way. WTF

What's even sadder is the fact that you do not have to wait for a "full lock on" to fire your missiles; you can just fire your missiles the moment you switch to missile mode and they will automagically lock on and hit in mid flight no matter how far or close you are provided you are in range for the lock. I very clearly remember the pre-patch days when having to have to wait the full 2-3 seconds to get a full lock before your missiles actually became "guided" was the norm. Sure, the missiles weren't very effective but it's a far cry from how incredibly effective they are now.

Imo, dogfighting used to be alot more fun when you could actually evade someone and make them chase you all across the map with their guns. Dogfighting has now degenerated to whoever gets behind you first. Hell, even the ****ing Su-34 is a dogfighting monster now! I don't remember these damn bomber pilots having such big balls before the patch. I used to laugh when I saw foolish bomber pilots get behind me now I pray that the damn A2A missile code doesn't send me back to the E-key war. Oh yeah, before anyone opens their flaming **** flaps, I kick ass in the skies. I have pretty much given up on jets now though and stick to choppers or ground pounding.
You must suck then, because I've been capable of escaping and evading all my foes in the air lately. Aim high or hit the brakes & pull a maverick on em. Too many tactics to list. Regardless, I haven't been having trouble evading enemy jets lately.
