helo flying certainly isn't what it used to be, but if you know when to hit the deck and use buildings for cover, you can survive for long stretches. Blowing up the stingers, occupied or not, helps a lot...

Having good jet pilots on ur side helps too, I hate aviators when I'm trying to get a tank off the beach on Oman and getting 23094823094 bombs put in my backside, but flying a helo and not being bothered by the opposing jet is certainly worth a big TY to those same pilots.

Over the wkend we played a round on Dalian as USMC where our 2 best pilots stole BOTH J10s. We had 4 jets in the air. I think I died 2x in the helo tops, lol. They only got one of the J10's back, the other guy went 38-0 lol

IMO i think helo piloting has gotten better!

sorry to disagree but yeah it has gotten harder for pilots to fly helos but that just means one needs to improve on some things or try different tactics.

the death of the helo is sitting or hovering in one spot for too long....even if its like 5 seconds....gives the pilots a reference to loop and slow down a bit....even then with some hardcore cornering and countermeasures most aircraft can be avoided...

especially if they are flying really slow...spin a 180 and ram a TV-M up their hinder.

Yea, I remember in the "old" days where helo flying was fun. Now it just sucks.. Oh well. Ground pounding for me.

i think its better now too, it now takes skill to avoid jets and aa sites where as before any old noob could own in a chopper. if you know what your doing then piloting is still as easy as it was at v1.0.

How can we try different tactics when we can't even take off?

We can't really improve when the longest run we can get is like 30 secs.

Re: It's impossible to fly the helo now-a-days.

I haven't and don't really have any issues flying the attack helos. I find the only distruption to us owning the map in one are the mobile and stationary AA sites.

As someone mentioned, when locked on from a jet, a simple 180degree horizontal twist normally avoids any attack, but the AA sites..yeah, they're a little difficult, but if you play as a team over VoIP, whether in-game of 3rd party, communicate as to where you think the AA mobile is and plan your attack strategy from there.

To the guy who said "practice makes perfect", you couldn't be farther from the truth. Practice only makes you better, if ever you feel you've perfected the concept of in-game flight, you'll be surprised as to how easy you will be taken out! :)

I'd still like to see the J-10 be taken down more often than it already is, because as it stands, it lays out all over vehicles, hands down.

              PEACE

Re: It's impossible to fly the helo now-a-days.

It's not "impossible" to fly the helo, either of them. How about a bit of an attitude change and say "it's a challenge to fly the helo with the latest patches". Or perhaps with a different attitude like "it's more of a challenge to fly a helo with these latest patches than I'm willing to try".

It really just takes a bit of practice, preferably on your own local, multi-player server. Or try single player 16-man Dragon Valley with the bots set progressively better. You'd be suprised how much better you'll learn to fly the Cobra and Z10 by going against the expert bots. And if you really want some fun, fly as a gunner with a bot pilot!

I'd also suggest this challenge to all of you reading these postings...how about a little more patience with getting your teammates to cooperate and work together for the win. Especially while pubbing. You can always ask for assistance/help/teamwork and if you don't get it, move to another server!

Or perhaps just teaming up with someone or a squad and start following the squad leader around and resupplying or healing them.

                ...just my own humble opinion...

Oh, and as far as jets coming at the attack helo's...it ONLY takes 2-3 dumbfires to kill a jet outright... };>

yeah well getting off the ground really is the tough part...

                    Here's the thing...

No position should be invunerable. You get blown up, shot, knifed, blown up again on the ground right? Why should getting in a chopper suddenly be a ticket to domination?

Expect to get blown up where ever you are on the field and just go with it. It's not a matter of "If" you die, it's when.

Also, practice in single player or in co-op to get manuevers 'n stuff down. Much easier than trying to figure stuff out with the mayhem of typical on-line game play going on around you.

Dude, are you on something?!? I only understood about half of what you wrote!

As for trying to fly a chopper, it's not impossible just terribly hendered especially in pub play by the fact that you have a bunch of 12 year olds running around trying to snag all the uber easy badges/awards now and have absolutely no concept of TEAM play! It's rediculous! But it's still worth hopping in the AC every chance you get because you just might get lucky and catch a really good round where you own everything in that round!

Well said Wargimp! I unfortunately found this out the hard way when I first started playing, hence why it's taken me nearly 10 months to finally have a 1.00 KDR. But when it comes to flying, especially the helos, there's no better place to practice than in SP.

Re: It's impossible to fly the helo now-a-days.

                        another quick note:

let me say a little something about altitude...

for me i find my best helo runs involve ducking in and around ever crevice, tree, building, rock, friendly tank, and bridge close to altitude of 3 and 15 the best position for most supporting roles....

most pilots and helos wont see you as well and will fly past you (also have obstacles to worry about at higher speeds) a low position in a dip in the ground behind a tree gives you a good spot to spring out from and attack from behind...im not saying i always fly low because most times its better to pop up and set up a TV-M for a tank and then sink back into another spot.

IMPORTANT... even though you are low to the ground this does not mean sit in one spot and wait for enemies coming to you....find them kill a couple and get low while being able to scan most of the area...UAV always helps

dont be a sitting duck...practice fast tight flying close to the ground and learn how to hover almost instantly

                        srry another quick post....

learn how to barrel roll...you dont need as much altitude as you think you need....(only really effective if enemy chopper is firing a TV at you or is behind you and you think he is going to fire one) also a barrel roll..not full...but 3/4 will make the other pilot think you are going left (for example) but you roll over and then head out to the right into a quick 180 almost a split-s but you roll over instead of spending the extra time to switch directions and is more readable (besides they might get a little defensive thinking your a great pilot which puts you in the offensive position...

another quick 180 not turning left or right is the immalman (sp?) or reverse immalman i dunno....roll over like a barrel roll but only 180 deg (upsidown) and then pull up hard...very fast 180 and you dont sway from your flight line....good for a second pass on armor or counter a heli behind you flying fast.

You mean you got killed by enemy fire before your "teammates" tk'd you for the heli? Thats odd.

Re: It's impossible to fly the helo now-a-days.

apeaking of which, the USS essex "the best AA out there" cant hit an nme plane flying past with all 8 missiles. sure, it even manged to hit somefriendlies, but the plane flew away unscratched. btw yes it was a j10
Thats why...it was a j-10....fyi essex IS best aa out there, I get shot down 90% of the time by it when im in the j-10....j-10 is bugged thats why.

And fyi choppers aren't impossible to fly, but I will say for a fact its a hell of a lot easier to shoot them down than to fly/get kills with them. Stinger anyone....vodnik....jets...

Its just ridiculous, jets kill these things silently (if you have selected) in about 4 seconds flat and half the time as a heli pilot I don't even know im being hit until its too late....

Vodniks are the same, they do a bit less dmg but keep firing and don't have the disadvantage a jet does which is that it has to keep moving so if it doesn't get u the first time it has to come back around.

Stingers are plain ridiculous, they ignore flares 50% of time and ive seen them in rare instances (NO /cheating) fire 4 at a time....yes FOUR missiles at a time out of ONE stinger....

Like I said...helluva lot harder to get a kill with chopper than to get killed in one...

the death of the helo is sitting or hovering in one spot for too long....even if its like 5 seconds....gives the pilots a reference to loop and slow down a bit....even then with some cornering and countermeasures most aircraft can be avoided...
But against good jet pilots that never works, honestly im so much better in the chopper than in the jet (yet my k/d ratio is better in jet) and its incredibly easy to kill choppers even the ones that do flips in midair and go low etc....they still die even if i have to come around a second time....it doesn't matter...

                                That's such crap.

A good pilot and gunner can dish out complete ownage in this game - and rightly so. The problem is that 95% of heli pilots fly the thing 15 feet from the ground forcing the gunner to look at pavement the entire time.

AA/Stinger sites should be your first priority. If you're getting shot down every 30 seconds, maybe you reconsider your strategy.
