yeah - a squad leader can and should give orders himself... you can either go into your map and right-click, or use the T key to set way-points/give orders in-game!

works well when combining the "move here!" icon w/ VOIP...

"ok guys, we're attacking Construction but I wanna attack from the north <move to this possition!>"

or if you want to have a couple guys flank...

"ok..spankey and bob, you guys go here <move here> and the rest of us will come in from this side <move here>"

I too was frustrated by the lack of team/squad/CO play in BF2 on most servers. I started playing on Tactical Gamer servers and have never looked back. Their BF2 Server 1, at64.34.161.157:16567 is open to the public every night (check website for exact schedule and mod nights).

You'll always find a good game there, and newcomers are always welcome as long as they play by the rules (which are basically to join a squad, follow orders, and not TK/bunnyhop/UCB camp. For those who don't play by the rules, admins are always in residence ready to enforce.
