Re: The Cobras cannon is weak and pathetic compared to the havoc
All valid points, but I stay by my perception that the Cobra, overall, is the winner. It might just be my bias towards liking the following helos: AH-1Z/Huey/AH-64A(D), but I feel more comfortable with the Cobra.
It does all come down to the gunner though. And as for the blast radius of the .50cal shell blast on the MI-8, I'd be stupid to dispute the overall raw power of it, but the Cobra can do the same with splash damage, it just takes a couple seconds longer.
I've noticed that the Cobra's chaingun is best used with splash damage, and not trying to hit the infantry. As for being AT, I've gotten really good at locking on to helicopters since 1.22, and it's normally enough to get them running away or at least think twice about camping.
Again, I think overall it does come down to the team playing in the helicopter, but I can see your point about the .50cal shells blasting away on an unexpecting Cobra. Sometimes I wonder what the chances are that you kill someone by punching through the cockpit of the opposing helicopter.
Normally, when I'm gunner (rare, because I don't trust other pilots), I aim for the side of the cockpit, therefore I only start shooting when the enemy isn't facing me, and it's even a quicker kill when we're in an MI-8, so I agree with you.
PEACE
