Re: BF2 is now a 'slow' game...
If your team needed squadhopping to win a match, then the problem isn't the removal of squadhopping it's your overall tactics. Yes, I've squadhopped, and I'm sure everyone else here has as well, but I'm with troybob when I say good riddance to it. It seemed cheesy even when I did it that one moment one person was SL and the next moment they die, he leaves and rejoins the squad, respawns, then cycles back in to the squad leader. The way it used to work, it was a falsehood to even call it a squad leader. That person should have been called 'the current mobile spawnpoint'. Now, there is an emphasis on keeping your SL alive, and as an SL there is a purpose of staying back from the action and letting your squad do the work of capping flags, etc. If squad hopping ruined your style of gameplay, then you were never a good 'Squad Leader' to begin with since you probably just charged right in to the middle of the firefight with little regard of your own safety because the actual 'squad leader' position held no more importance than any other soldier on the battlefield. And if you think it's not as action packed to stay back as an SL, or you won't get as many points, etc. then you're probably right, and you're also probably not cut out to be a squad leader. SLs, like good base-defenders, focus more on getting the team win, and being able to use the SL as a spawn point closer to the action will now be worth 10x more than it was before. It'll give a squad an incentive to stick together, to protect the SL, and in time you'll see that the team that manages its squads well and keeps the SLs alive and active will be the teams winning the games.
In short, I'm glad it was removed, and hopefully this will now force people to think tactically and use the SL (and the squad feature in general for that matter) the way it always should have been from the get-go.
