Yep, plus all engineers get personal SAM missile launchers, they don't do much damage but they are good at scaring away most helicopters/planes. A team of engineers can take down a plane/chopper in no time as they also don't seem to be fazed by flares and can make 90 degree turns and the like. (Seems like a bug in USI though?)

Was the time taken to lock on to a heat source with stinger sites prolonged? I feel that they added a couple of seconds to the already difficult task of locking onto an aircraft and destroying it.

Just yesterday I played on a server that was dominated by extremely skilled pilots, both Jets and choppers. I could not jump into a vehicle and move across 3 meters without being destroyed. Everytime I would even think of using a stinger site, it was already being bombed with precise accuracy.

Also I think they made jets slower, either that or every pilot on that server was not holding 'w' very often.

It's just so damn hard to take out those jets...

AA is just fine. Obviously you have never had to fly past 2 or 3 AA emplacements with a mig on your tail. As an occasional pilot, I honestly feel that AA is equally as annoying as the jets themselves.

Randomise the AA placements I say would be a better idea.

Problem is, DICE would screw up thier random positioning and make it like the spawn points in Karkand, where just about everyone knows where everyone spawns.

Here's a tip for all the AA whores: You don't have to get a full lock on signal to hit aircraft. Just shoot your missiles the moment a jet/chopper is in your sights.

As for the topic, there have been better suggestions around. Unfortunately you cant actually do anything else than finetuning the STA missiles on the current platforms.

Dice is not going to do anything about the nerfed AA. They have already come to the conclusion that there needs to be air and armor in the game. For these possibilities to exist, they must nerf AA and AT weapons.

I think the original poster was referring to missile batteries like Hawks when he said "SAMs." With Hawks and unnerfed AA artillery floating around nobody would fly. The life expectancy of close support aircraft in a modern war is minimal. Why do you think it was standard practice to drop smart bombs from well above the range of AAA or SAMs in Serbia or Iraq. Did you see what happened to the Tornadoes which tried to attack Iraqi installations at low level during GFW1? They were decimated.

I've seen AA whores climb to the top of the list. In fact, I've seen clans that man every AA emplacement on the map that can keep the whole enemy air force grounded. You clearly do not know what you are talking about or just how effective the AA truly is. Online1-0, I don't give a rats ass about Tornadoes in Iraq; Iraq and Serbia have nothing to do with Wake Island 2007 and Dragon Valley. As has been stated many times this is a game and any similarities to real life are only superficial.

Why not just give ground infantry the option for the "Stinger" kit?

It would be the same as Anti-Tank, only with Stingers. Pilots would then have to worry about more than the stationary A.A. emplacements. Matter of fact, just remove stationary A.A. and add shoulder fired Stingers.

Don't change any dynamics of the missiles, just add a kit to the game to allow for stingers. The missiles are fine, they hit what they are aimed at 50% of the time. Good enough for me. I just don't want to be glued to the ground or lit up in the pilots HUD 24/7 while trying to shoot him down.

But the AA guns are situated in the same position every round and good pilots and trust me I know there are a lot of good ones know exactly where on the map the AA is placed, when they get into range they just light that bitch up with a hail of gunfire and if needed some bombs.

Yes it is, but the fact of the matter is that you can shutdown the enemy airforce if you really tried. Ask any pilot noob or vet and they will tell you how much it sucks to fly when more than one AA emplacement is being manned, on top of the other jets that are in the air. Not only are flares useless sometimes but you sure in the hell don't get enough of them to take on several AA emplacements plus the jets that are already in the sky.

The problem with this is everyone would be using the stinger kit and then we'd have a flood of pilots complaining that their game has been ruined. Ideas like this sound great on paper but fail miserably in execution.

Just throw in a Type 95, take out a stationary emplacement, and that would pretty much settle Wake Island. If I remeber correctly, the other maps with jets have AA vehicles, but if one is missing one, just find a similar solution.
