1:30: Bug? Unable to repair assets while in a vehicle?
1:30: Bug? Unable to repair assets while in a vehicle?
Has anyone tried repairing their UAV/Scanner/Artillery while inside a vehicle? The servers I played on tonight I wasn't able to. I had to get out and repair them (and of course someone steals my tank...arg).
Are other people experiencing this? Or am I just hallucinating?

Oh really...guess what you do with that extra C4...place it on the artillery piece that the guy with the tank is about to repair...he gets out and you explode it killing the engineer and taking his partially damaged tank.
Or a sniper taking out the engineer with a claymore and stealing his APC...

honestly and with all due respect, I am guessing you don't play Engineer?
ENGINEERS DO NOT NEED FRICKEN MORE NERFING!
When they need to get out it exposes them even more, than if they do a "drive-by" quicky repair.
It is hard enough for a commander to keep assets up with determined Spec Ops causing trouble, this may reduce the number of helpful Engys to about one. Me :hmm:
Re: 1:30: Bug? Unable to repair assets while in a vehicle?
ah come on guys - it's not exactly a game breaker at all
to bitch about having to get out of a vehicle to do 3 seconds of cranking is a tad petty wouldn't you say?
Re: 1:30: Bug? Unable to repair assets while in a vehicle?
No it's not petty. It's a pain in the arse. Like mentioned, engineers are a weak class to play for points, but at least when in a vehicle repairs are quicker. This new change/bug is a pain in the arse.
Engineers wrenching an arty cannon are 100% vulnerable and it's much longer than three seconds, normally thirty per cannon. There is little you can do, with a good cunning spec op's soldier hanging around. He'll take you out everytime you try to help you're commander/team. Then if the commander drops supplys at the arty, the spec op's will resupply and blow them over and over.
At least sitting in a DPV or Vodnik etc, you had some protection and ability to retreat if bullets started hitting you.
I guess everyone should just play medic, and EA should re-name the game BattleMedic 2.
Re: 1:30: Bug? Unable to repair assets while in a vehicle?
hooray another Arma fan :)
I suppose it is an annoyance to dedicated engineers but as long as you can still repair other vehicles while still in your own the primary engineer game mechanic has not changed enough to warrant another patch...browsing through various threads the only problem seems to be CTD which has always been associated with a new patch and people's difficulty in patching which is generally a problem on their end
I guess what I'm driving at is with so many fixes (apparently SF no longer lags as much) I'd really love to see this be the BF2 final :)
Re: 1:30: Bug? Unable to repair assets while in a vehicle?
I think its ok, that you must get out of your vehicle to repair assets, make it more realistic man.. You must keep in mind that BOTH teams must do it so... :p

Its not 3 seconds of repairing. Its more like 30 because you have to use a full bar to repair the piece to 1% health, then another full bar of repair to repair it to 100% health.
So you'll have to wait for your repair bar to go up to get it to 100% health. I always try to get it to at least 51% health so the SpecOps guy HAS to use 2 C4, otherwise he'll only need 1.
Next time one of your assets is destroyed, try repairinng it...its not the 3 seconds you claim.
OH, and also while you're repairing you must always be within 1m of the asset looking at it during this 30 second period.

Yes it takes time, but as someone said its more realistic to actually get out of the car and repair something.
I mean how realistic is it that you can sit in your APC checking a 360deg view for people who might kill you yet still actually repair stuff?
Stay in a squad and ask for support from team mates as back up while you repair things.
With your logic then SpecOps should have to place a C4 charge instead of dropping one or two in the span of a second?
The argument for reality vs. arcade has been argued before, so there's no point to do it again.
I don't recall anything in the patch notes saying you can no longer repair your assets while inside a vehicle? Did I miss something?
This is obviously another nerf to the Engineer class, as has been pointed out.
The consequences of this is that friendly engineers will NOT repair friendly assets as often. Thus you'll have less UAV over your head. You'll have less artillery support. You'll loose more rounds because the commander won't have scanner support to spot the guy coming behind to kill you.
It does have an effect on everyone on your side. See what I mean?
