I agree with you completely Diabl0. Except we need a patch that will fix the existing bugs instead of a patch that will add nifty new things to do in game. I mean seriously, WTF is EA thinking by making changes to this kit and that kit, adding air drop vehicles, tweaking the helo, canceling the squad buttons when you die, and all the other useless BS? Do they not ahve anyone under their employ that is capable or able to correct the most obvious bugs? No one is asking for perfection either, just make the game freaking work BEFORE you go all monkey balls with the aesthetics!!!

Funny but this is the only game I have ever played online that has had such sh!tty performance with respect to good hardware. Counter-Strike, OFP/BHD, SWAT, UT2004, Quake 4, Doom 3, Ghost Recon series, SOF 2, none of these games has had the sheer amount of crashes that have been reported in BF2. I am highly suspect of the whole "user end related" idea, I call Shannannigans!!!!

Ya, are any of you OC'ing your memory? BF2 is real twitchy with memory quality. Also are any of you running a Dual-Core? I used to have a lot of CTDs, they became less common after I upgraded to some good OCZ. Then they practically disappeared when I started setting my affinity to CPU=0.

My friend had a lot of problems with CTDs, and it was CPU affinity for him also. Both of us had Nforce4 w/ AMD dual-cores.

I can run ANY other game out there on the highest settings, yet when I run BF2 almost everyday, I CTD at least once. No processes in the background, all the latest drivers, no hardware tweaks or conflicts, spyware/adware and virus scans done religiously, and defrags once a month if needed, everything runs like butter, except BF2. And, it almost never, if ever has happened on anything but a 64 player map. I get no lag, even in the middle of an arty strike, nothing, playing smooth and then boom. Also, I like when you're in the middle of a round, and all of a sudden there's a mass disconnect, it always seem to be one side too. Hell, I'd almost like all the new changes if they would fix the game first.

I have never had the CTD problem...I have lost my server in the same situation when you are doing well etc, but other than that, I dont get many of those issues. I have seen red / blue problem...but hey, I just leave and go to another server and it seems to be fixed each time

CTD is a constant issue with me. Once a day constant. No issues on my end either.

That and the squad bug, the one where you start a round stuck in a squad and cannot spawn on SL or leave the squad, are driving me nuts.

Can't wait for more BS with a new patch adding new things.

I predict that there will be a bug where you can NEVER join a squad.

99% of the time a server reset fixes that one. I find that 24/7 servers are the worst for this. One I used to play on would never be reset, and it was horrible there, seriously, like half the team would be red, and random enemy would be blue, USMC could form squads but couldn't get a commander, MEC had a commander, but couldn't form squads, in a way, it was very challenging.

No, i dont have a Low end system. Mines about mid range to high end.

                amd 3700+
                6800gs ( I really need at 7900gt)
                gig of dual channel ram
blah blah blah, i built it myself its good whatever.

Yesterday I probably had the best sqaud ever. We got probably around 230-300 points a game as a sqaud and this sqaud listended, they did what there objective was and weren't selfish. I loved it. And we won the game for our team because we were the only ones that played as a team. It was fantastic but then I get this crash to desktop crap and it ****ed me off so much.

Re: We really need the patch

If I had my say in BF2's development process, I would have foregone the proprietary engine and just gone with the UT2k4 engine. Stable, vibrant, fluid over the net. All EA would have had to do is port in a new HUD, new vehicle models, and weapons. Same thing happend to Halo for PC. The single player campaign was gorgeous, but the online play was a beast as far as network resources were concerned. Lag was abound.

What is happening now is that EA and DICE are trying to of course patch up the the vanilla installation's flaws, correct gross and subtle gameplay imbalances, and still try to maintain resource overhead while compensating for Punkbuster and GameSpy (like trying to put 2 suitcases worth of clothes into one suitcase, yet hoping it weighs as much as one suitcase).

I hope this is a loud warning for BF2142. Stop trying to reinvent the wheel. The Quake3 and Unreal Technology 3 engines seem very promising. Why start from square one when you can start from square three?

I just hope the next patch doesn't bugger down the game to the point of unplayability or forcing me to throw down $5k for a NASA supercomputer.

CTD's have happened to a lot of people because of the missing Squad 0 texture referenced in the BF2 code, you can check yourself in your Docs&settings/Battlefield2/dmp folder, get the debug tool from the Microsoft site which allows you to open the dmp and give more meaningful info
Although my last CTD was just before i installed XP Pro and only installed vanilla Bf2( no SF for me thank you very much, it collects dust for me now ). I got too angry with modified content errors to bother with SF anymore, i have better things to do with my free time than reinstall and patch for the gazillionth time, great reason to not buy booster packs, in fact a great all round solution and money saver, lol

Don't hold your breath hoping that EA will fix any of those stuff. If it's not mentioned in the pre-release patch list, it probably won't be fixed. Assuming they will address these unmentioned issues is only setting yourself up for further disappointment.

But hey, it's a good lesson about disappointments in life.

Right, I expect the net code to be fixed in 1.4, after we see 1.32. They are going to have to do a lot of work, and with the time contrainst of getting 1.3 out, it could be a few more months.

If you think about it, it will take 3 months to modify the code and maybe a month or so of beta testing it. If they have been working on it for a bit now, lets hope to see it about August.

I mentioned 1.32, because they still have not put in the explosive pickup. That might be in 1.4 too.
