"Frag out!" Discussion about handheld explosives.

I'm sure we all use grenades and claymores sometimes, they're handy, trusty, and reliable.. But are they too good? I'm concerned. It would clearly seem to me like they're far too overpowered for their own good.

In multiple situations I witness a small, (Weak, if i didn't know better), perfectly balanced grenade plop about 5-7 yards in front of me. I'll frantically sprint and jump away but I'll always end up dying or being hurt (Often badly  ), not to mention serious shell-shock. It would seem that the actual damage radius is about three times as big as the actual explosion effect.

Maybe the developers went a little overboard when programming this small, four second fused handheld baseball of inevitable-death.

The other thing that seems like it's over powered and over-ranged is the infamous claymore. It's satisfying when you kill someone with one, but it's very annoying when someone kills you with one. (Same goes for the knife )
You start to feel like putting claymores down is cheap and unfair. I know that I feel a little guilty when an unsuspecting victim is practically vaporized by one of my claymores.

Again, I'll be 5-7 yards from a claymore, which will explode as soon as I look directly at it, killing me instantly. I see people muttering "Good thing those snipers have those claymores, or else they wouldn't have any points!". I know that claymores don't account for all of a sniper's kills, but a good chunk of them are. Especially since they're over-ranged and over-powered.

    Infamous scene:

    Thesupersnip3rz [Claymore] USMCdude
    Thesupersnip3rz [Claymore] Iwishiwasagoat
    Thesupersnip3rz [Claymore] Ihateclaymoresmorethangod
We've lost control of another outpost. Start fighting, bitches.
    Thesupersnip3rz [Claymore] Ikillsnipersforaliving
    Ihateclaymoresmorethangod [Knife] Thesupersnip3rz

(Fiction, produced solely to enforce my point. )

I think that explosions like these should be slightly tweaked in the next update. It's not like I have anything personal against frags and claymores, but I'm sure anybody would probably agree with me (Even if you kill people constantly with frags, or you rely on claymores to either cover you while sniping, or to instantly and utterly obliterate anything that comes within a seven yard radius).

What do you think? I want to hear other people's opinions.

Well, they could nerf the claymores and give snipers a detonator to make them work like C4. That would fix definitely fix it.

As for grenades, yeah they're definitely overpowered, most players I encounter would rather spam all their grenades before taking a shot with their rifles.

So you'd want to be chucking these at eachother?

      :p

Nope, I think 'nade damage and blast radius is fine.

I do have a thought on balance tho... The chuck distance is a little crazy (I think we all know this). A fairly simple thing to do would be to make the left click only toss at a percentage of it's max distance (like 50 to 70%). For a full strenght toss (required to hit certain positions), you'd have to use that right mouse button to build up your throw.

Donno if it needs to be done, but if people think you can chuck hand nads too far, too fast, it would work as a mechanic. Better than just nerfing it.

Meh, distance is fine. I'd rather see them reduce the number of grenades to two per kit instead.

just play maps other than Karkand and you wont see as much of these toys :p

In mohaa the granade is overpower in CS its underpowerd. In BF2 is just fine!!

Hmm it's not just karkand, I stopped playing karkand a while back ago. In all SF maps, most chokepoints turn into a nade festival.

No, messing with anything in this post would be gay as hell. I've gotten used to the ownage-stands and being owned by them too (clays) since the last patch. Frags are perfect.

I'd say grenades are fine - I know how it feels trying to escape from the buggers (and then tossing one right next to an enemy and them surviving :P) but outside of Karkand they are not nearly as big a deal and become much more situational toys.

Claymores, well at the moment they are just annoying especially when place inside buildings with one entrance as they only way to clear it is with a volunteer. Mines no TK'ing makes sense as you CAN clear them in with little or no danger to the clearer but claymores, trying to get near them is death.

I think that grenades are fine, blast radius fuse etc. Claymores however I feel should be sorted out, i ca't recall the amount of times on Warlord in the palace when SAS have one side and Insurgent the other, you see snipers sprinting right into the enemy equipped with claymores. They obcvously get nailed but as soon as one guy moves................. boom.

Its frustrating and cheap, I think they should be made harder to see but can bisabled, maybe by getting behind it with somekind of kit or knife and have a timed defuse maybe?

I think that you should be able to avoid claymores. Ive tried countless times to avoid them by crawling slowly in front of them but no good. I also think there should be some form of defusal for it.

I agree that the claymore is a bit too easy to deploy. Some snipers have become expert about hopping into an area just spamming claymores.

As far as the blast radius of granades goes, I think it's about right.

Yea I absolutely hate how a sniper will throw down a claymore in a CQB battle and get you killed easier than shooting fish in a bucket
I think it'd be helpful if the deployment was something like RainbowSix games where you have to hold the button down.

Snipers throwing down clays in CQC?

                          Sniper = dead

people throwing grenades? Jump out, shoot them before they can get their gun out.

People throwing grenades out of your sight? GET EARS! GRENADE! FRAG GRENADE! BOMPULA! is perfectly easy to hear!

As for the detonation distance for clays, it's fine, be glad it's not like real life (wich would be worse)

I don't find grenades or claymores to be underpowered for this game at all. If there was one thing I'd fix about the game it would be an experience factor. Instead of just and increase of rank, players would improve skills as applied to the game as refected by rank.

Grenades and claymores work just fine in this game. Just because a few players seem to have trouble avoiding the consequences of a thrown grenade or a well placed mine doesn't mean that these weapons should be nurfed.

I hate the fact that helicopter/support gunships have been nurffed. Why not just take the time to learn to play the game. Team work is the theme and tactics is the game. If you can hook up with a group of people who are willing to communicate and cooperate with thier team mates, the power of a specific weapon is not important.

It would be cool if the Engineer class were able to deactivate and perhaps reposition and turn an enemy's claymore back on the enemy

I dont have a problem so much with grenades and their blast radius as when guys grenade spam from a support guy or supply crate. I have noticed more and more, on maps like Masthuur City (sp) , players get on a hill overlooking a flag and get a supply crate sent to them and just continuisly nade spam an enemy flag they have no intention of trying to take.
I hate the claymores and I think they are being abused like C4 tossing was way back when. Since when is it a snipers function to run into the middle of the action? Its obviously not and planting that Claymore right before getting killed assures a kill or 3.
IMHO claymores function should somehow be limited to 1) 1 per sniper 2) for self defense only.
Maybe limited the number of nades per player per life. So you would have 4 nades only...no resupply until you get killed and respawn.
