If the designers made a medal that meant you were crap..then it wouldnt be called the purple heart. That would be mocking the real purple heart.. and if anyone knows someone who got a purple heart in real life... if you mock em for it.. they would kill you. The purple heart was for real soldiers who fought thier ass off and had many members die in the process. To mock that would be a disgrace to real life war heroes.

Uhhh easy there with the heavy patriotic sentiment there.

It's a game. Real Purple Heart does not = BF2 Purple heart. You don't want a BF2 Purple heart. And that's no disrespect to a true vet. That's just my uncanny ability to distinguish between a video game and real life.

Some things are simple and this is one of them. Gold medal means you got 1st, Bronze means you got third. Purple heart means you got F'd in the A. Simple. But if you think it's a good thing I'll be happy to drop in and help you try to get one.

Ah yes, and you roll your eyes at that because you were there with him in vietnam and saw everything he did?

I wouldn't say everyone who has it sucks because I am sure some people got it on purpose, some people got it when they just started playing the game, some got it on a bad day and some got it while trying to get some badge.

However, it certianly isn't pretty because it means you sucked ass for your team in at least one round.

Wow, That's the best description I've ever heard...there is a guy in my unit that has one, he has a scar from armpit to hip...the truck he was in was hit by an IED. it sent schrapnel all throughout him, he has pins in his feet and legs...but he is still coming to work everyday and doing what he has to do for his country

Exactly...my Great Uncle had his leg almost completely blown off by a mortar in WW2, and recieved the Purple Heart....its not for puss!es, its for combat hardened soldiers, and is an honorable award. Anyone who would poke fun at that should be slapped.



Purple Heart in BF2 doesnt mean you are a sh!t player in most cases, sure there are a few people out thier that have bad games daily, mine was earned fighting tanks on Karkand, i dont play AT kit so much anymore, lol.

Although I have one PH. I have been told by the game I have recieived it 3 times. I am unclear if this is do to a lack of skill. (I presently stand at Gunnery Sgt -- I have played the game since November 95) I believe that the Medal may be misleading as to skill.

The system I play on is bottom rung. I cannot play with VOIP without unbearable lag. Also, my overall strategy is for my team to win the round, to protect my squad leader and destroy the enemy assets at all costs. Needless to say this incurs alot of calls for the Medic. This is not conducive to high scores.

For me the Purple Heart represents my efforts to fight the good fight.:salute: (in this game)

Exactley, If I spend my entire round, destroying tanks or defending flags that are being over-run....then yes, I'm going to get one

If I spend my entire round in a squad, but not WITH a squad...then no, I dont earn one

Acctully its not...I got my first on day one of having the game...the rest I have gotten playing defense...attempting to take down what I can of a 6man squad trying to take out last flag...or something along those lines

Yes, on Wake about 2 months ago I think. Just got in the South tank at full health only to have a Cobra bear down on me. I floated a shell out there and happened to hit and kill it. No damage to me at all. I got the 2 kills and immediately was awarded a purple heart as I just kept on driving down the road. That's why the PH has no meaning to me.

I also will keep spawning in a dangerous area just to keep control of a flag, dying several times in the process. Helps the team but very bad for my stats. It's sort of sad that some of y'all are all high strung about having great stats. Makes me think that IRL you aren't accomplishing anything and need some compensation in the artificial reality of a game. Probably the same ones that have to have 3+ drinks and do drugs while playing.

if i ever died 25 times in one round of a video game, i would give up gaming for good. youve got to be incredibly **** to die that many times.

Boy, I get tired of seeing this.

I received the purple heart quite a few times, especially when I just started playing and had a horribly outdated video card. Average frames of about 10 or 11. 13fps was like heaven on the rare seconds when it got that high and I wasn't staring at a wall. Trying to kill someone with that framerate was laughable. Well, no, it never really made me laugh. It made me destroy a few keyboards, though.

But I found that by playing medic or support I could still play with my friends and make a meaningful contribution to the team effort.

So I got very high team scores, very low kills and a goodly amount of deaths.

Now that I have a better video card, I have a lot more trigger time and I don't get the purple hearts anymore (unless the flyboys are constantly buzzing overhead).

So getting a purple heart doesn't necessarily mean that you suck.
