Combat requires you to know more about the game and the map then your enemy (hits required, reload times, etc...) and also to have a good shot.

Why can't you jump through windows? I have no problem jumping through windows. Why do you need to jump in order to throw a grenade at a wall to come back down on a defender?

Yup, there is absolutely no way you actually have to aim at your opponents. It's all done for you. Everything is just down to luck and there is no skill involved

I've found it takes MORE skill now, because everyone who plays regularly is getting better. And in Special Forces and Euro Forces, you're gonna run into the seriously devoted players.

Re: Combat requires very little skill?

Winning a firefight in BF2 is a LOT more about who has a better gun, who has weight of numbers and who is in a better position. While this could be conceived as "skill" I am not sure it is. Aiming in this game is more or less limited to point and click, then deviation acounts for what really happens. It seems generally that being a top player is about being SMART enough to be in the right places at the right time rather than any ability to aim better. Admittedly this does play a part, but it is nothing as compared to (for instance) the first 2 Tribes games. Try hitting another guy in midair a 100m off the ground 200m away with a spinfuser(aka dumbfire rocket), then I will call that skill. Not point and click at some guy 30m away.

SMART isn't a skill? FWIW, I agree with you whole heartedly, it's not about aiming or any individual hand-to-eye coordination that makes a player better or worse, although it plays a small part for sure. But really the major impact is in exactly what you describe, being smart and ensuring you have the upperhand before engaging.

But you seem to be derrogative about this. To me it is to be appreciated and respected. Maybe I'm just dumb...?

And to the guy that started this thread: Stop demeaning everyone personally just because they disagree with you. You asked for input and you got it.

                      Nice post, I totally agree!

No offense, but don't expect BF2 to have the same gameplay as Quake3 or UT

i think the main thing about combat is about :
                        - Covering/protecting your self
                        - Shoot when nessary, and if you know you will hit
                        - Dont be a noob and run every where, as that decrese team morale
                        - And use the right guns at the right time

A lot of people would change their tone about skill and luck if BF2 was a turn-based FPS. For those of you who have played Silent Storm, imagine if you could switch to the perspectives of your soldiers.

Luck is ending up in an advantageous position with no foresight or thought-out preparation.

Skill is seeing the enemy before he sees you and making sure he doesn't see you once you act. Skill is executing your attack or evasion without any warning. Skill is knowing that 2 well-placed shots is more effective than 50 bullets fired at the target's ZIP code.

No, the reason it's being changed is because some balance issues still need to be resolved (as well as bugs, that ARE being worked on. It simply takes more time to find, and nilch a bug than it does to adjust a balance flaw).

I am all for a balanced game, but sometimes it makes no sense whatsoever when a change is made. I know I will never get an answer for this, but why is EA hell-bent on making changes to the things that work while ignoring the most obvious bugs?
This mindset is really starting to **** me off. How do you know they are ignoring obvious bugs!? How in the hell do YOU outa' all people know what they are doing? Do you think it's easy to find a stray line of faulty code in a million/billion or so lines of the stuff? Do you!?

I mean... you act is if they can just go in and replicate every error you come into contact with. You act is if they have a tool as simplistic as a "bug sniffer" or somthing to that effect.

Jesus. Back off, let them work. I understand the frustration with the few bugs that have lingered since day one, but they say they are working on it and are aware of it so your constant and repetitive moaning and complaining about the same damn matter "AIN'T" helping. You're like a "talking point" clone somtimes, I swear.

Never understood the dumbing down of the stat system myself. I don't care about the stats, but, I guess they figured since about 30% or so of the higher ranked people stat-padded their way into their position, they might as well remove the meaning behind the ranking system all together because it's almost impossible to correctly regulate.

...that's all I can come up with in that regard.

Why are they making Coop mode now and not in the beginning? I mean, if you are all getting tired of having your ass handed to you by someone that has more time invested, you should ahve asked for this back then.
That has nothing to do with adding a Co-oP mode? Hell, by your logic they should have never added Wake Island because they didn't add it at the launch of the game. I mean, if you're getting tired of playing the original maps over and over again you should have asked for Wake-Island on release!

Co-oP mode just allows for a more tactical gameplay amongst a certain ground of the community that doesn't want to deal with the "Bounce, Bounce, Bounce, Kill, Kill, Kill" mindset of a majority of this community. So, instead of modifying game mechanics to fit this small niche, they just added a new game mode.

Does Co-oP play bother you for some reason? I mean, you don't have to play it if you don't want. It's not like it's being forced upon you.

The original poster (KHAN) also stated that he's been playing very little in the last few months...Right away the trolls come out to rip up a fair post that makes sense
To you... it doesn't make any damn sense to me. It's seems like a pointless thread with pointless subject matter that has been debated in and out of other threads for about a month now.

If you started playing BF2 after the 1.20 patch was realeased then you ahve no idea WTF anyone is talking about really...
Not entirely true. They can research the old talking points and data and draw conclusions just like everyone else. Granted, playing through the times does add a bit of "hands on knowledge" that cannot be replaced with anything. Yet, just because they were not there doesn't limit the ammount of input they are aloted. They are apart of the community as well.

I can no longer dive through windows to get out of tight spots, i cant jump and fire, I cant even jump and grab hold of the rope for the climbing hook! and no matter which weapon you choose now it has almost the exact same chance of killing than any other. Hardly any aim necessary.

I still like the game, hoping one of these mods will give me some intense combat, at the moment this game is balanced so that noobs and idiots can play easier. Boo freaking hoo.

Would like to add that changing squad spawning is going to make it even worse, ok some people abuse it, like some people abused jumping and firing and some people abused base raping. You dont have to pull all our teeth out just because some people are obsessed with sweets. The reason I like it is because trying to get somewhere secretly with your squad EA is pritty freaking difficult when you got some hand of god artillary that requires less skill than your programmers have.
                                Several problems in BF2 combat.

                                Support isnt giving support fire
Assault not being the most popular kit
Medics being used as a primary combat kit
All kits have weapons that can be used as primary combat weapons

Now what goes for shooting, I think DICE wants this game to go along the tactical road, focusing on movemement and strategical part of the game rather than UTs run and gun. However, there are many problems (some listed above) that will not allow this strategical face of the game appear. So you have a few squads (if) doing it like it was supposed to be done and thats it.

As for shooting and "skills" which would make you seem like you were breakdancing on the battlefield, it breaks the immersion, and the military aspect of the game. Many of what you consider skills, is humour for me, and exploit for the next man.
