Are you sure about that? I used to watch teammates climb latters and die with a claymore at the top.

When I played sniper, I would cover the ladders that could be used to climb and knife me. Not once did one of those claymores kill an enemy. It was ALWAYS a friendly.

Thats because thats a very selfish action, to block off an entire rooftop just so you can sit up there, what if you die up there, what if someone else wants to go up there as well?? Claymores should be used out in the field NOT in an offensive combat situation (on roofs) a sniper should never sit where offensive players fight.

First, defending a ladder that can be used by the enemy to come up and knife me is not even remotely "offensive."

Second, it *might* be selfish, but that is quite a stretch.

Third, I never climbed ladders in the middle of the fight to snipe, it was always back away from the action so there weren't around where other people were fighting.

Fourth, I don't know what game you play but most of the fighting happens on the ground, not on the roofs. So putting claymores on the ground is actually more likely to be putting them where "offensive players fight."

The reason that servers turn ON ff for claymores is the reason you have described in your post: people use them offensively to get the explosive award.

Claymores are meant as a SELF DEFENSE weapon for snipers while hiding out and actually sniping, not to rush into the front line, spam some, and run away for cheap kills

I suspect that if there was a way to seperate mines and claymores FF settings a lot more servers would turn FF ON for claymores and FF OF for mines, as city maps have got a bit silly recently with offensive snipers.

The reason why it was changed because tons of people were getting kicked and banned for using mines and claymores. Joe jerko just wants to run over thoes skulls and crossbones. They didn't care. Also selfish snipers would block entire areas of the map. DUH? It was a no brainer to adjust it.

Claymores are great offensive weapons as well as defensive. Saying they are only meant to cover your flank is dumb. Every weapon serves any purpose one can come up with.

As for those complaining about armor making Karkand unfair, then don't play Karkand. I think it is a great map and well balanced. It isn't that difficult to avoid getting spawn raped or to take out armor. (it is a big map, be creative)

The difference is that it takes skill to aim your gun. It takes no skill to run out and drop a claymore.

In addition, bullets actually infilict team damage, unlike claymores.

I can`t help but think if the claymores were more realistic and needed to be set off by the person who planted them,like say the C4 there really wouldnt be an issue.

I have been trying to get my basic explosives badge for a few days now. I figured playing a 64 player karkand with only 30 or so players and dropping clays would be the best way. With only 30 or so players the round lasts longer which gives you a better chance of getting those 13 kills.


What I have noticed when looking through the karkand servers is that a lot of these servers have claymore friendly fire turned on. There's really only one reason for that, the server admins hate clays, or they hate the sniper class. They think by turning on friendly fire that it will stop or limit people from using them. I know I won't use them on those servers because 1) I don't want to run into any myself, and 2) I don't want the teamkills.

I don't know why they hate clays. To me armor ruins karkand far more than clays. Hand grenades are even more prevelant but I think that's more acceptable than some lamer sitting in a tank raping spawn points and racking up 100 points.

Anyway, there's no other reason that I can think of for clay ff to be on. I personally don't like it but that's just me.

I don't mind claymores being used to defend a base....or to defend a sniping position...or to defend an alleyway....

The only thing that really, really really ****es me off is when a sniper dashes into enemy lines and throws a claymore at the face of a prone support/sniper enemy, instead of trying to knife or pistol, or god forbid, actually snipe them. Obviously they have a better chance of getting the kill this way, but (A) it takes no skill at all, and (B) when in hell would someone do that on purpose in reality - "Hmm....I have a sniper rifle that would let me kill this guy from 200+meters if I took some time about it....but I think instead I'll run up to his face and plant an explosive 3 inches from his nose, right before eating a dozen gallons of lead."
