Try playing medic in a squad. Get the first medic unlock too as it will allow you to single shot snipe at range. Head shot. Spawn with your squad leader and let him lead, i.e. take the ambush. Let others go get shot while you observe and live. Also, you can play commander and lay back sometimes.

In my opinion every new game SUCKS A$$. I used to play COD and that was the geatest game but after a couple of months of playing BF2 the COD game is a joke. You can only get better granted everyone else is also..No reason to give it up it is too good of a game to pass up..

Are there any servers where non-experts play?

True, although I did the opposite:)
I began as a medic/Specops then began to snipe more and more.
It's just so much fun to stalk people and setup traps and score headshots I feel like such a vile'n sneaky bastard, I just luv it!

                    To the OP and Tripwire:

BF2 is my first online FPS so I sucked bad at the beginning...my K/D ratio was about the same as your Trip. The key for me was to learn not to shoot at everything I saw. Shoot at enemy you have the jump on. If you're not in a position of advantage and they don't see you, sneak up on them but watch your back. Always try to put yourself in a position of advantage...use cover, flank (ie, circle around) the enemy. Try to move with others (squad up) as there is typically strength in numbers. It also helps a great deal to be intimately familiar with the maps. That'll only come with time.

This is sound advice, because at anything, it will give you the most important thing, patients and control. I was a good player when I started out BF2, because I came from a history of FPS and BF42/DC. My biggest hold back was my PC, which, looking back got me killed a lot.
But, recently, I went to playing sniper, and after a 3-4 weeks of non-stop sniper action, I got back into the thick of infantry fighting. My game skill increased 3 fold. Instead of being 7th-9th on a 64player map, I am now 1st-3rd. It has a lot to do with me taking a back seat and playing sniper. Learning how to evade, how to be smooth and quick with my aim. And, if I got into a real fight, how to be allout aggressive as hell and learn, "it is him or me", even if the enemy has the machine gun.
So, I would say go sniper for a little while, learn the mechanics of the game.

On the side, try assult to. People that are saying go Spec, I think they are wrong. They are underarmored, and you will get real fustrated having a nice gun, a lot of speed to run with, but get chewed up because you can't survive a 1v1 situation. With Assault, you will have a chance because of sheer body armor. Learn to pulse your shots too if you do go into a fight.

I hope this helps. Better to develop better players, then to watch people complain down the road.

I have heeded your advice and have certainly gotten better. I am by no means a pro, but I am getting more and more comfortable. I even had a successful helicopter flight...

I'm not exactley great at this game either...generaly I have a mediocre score 35-65 per round...then again some days (like today) I may end a round with under 10 points and just get demolished...however....when I started I was thrilled with a 20 point game...so, time in game helps...but as long as you enjoy it...dont worry about it...I dont

NO experts play SF. Who the hell are you guys? I almost forgot how many noobs hang out on this site it has been so long. All the experts who are players that play for teams in CAL still play vanilla. If you want to see experts go play on 24/7 Karkand team PTX in the evening or 24/7 Karkand infantry only 24 player max which is our server. CAL players will rape any SF players hands down. xfire= razzyrazz if you dont believe me.

Hey, I suck even more, but I shall stick with it until I get better. You're bound to suck a bit when you're fairly new and playing against people who've racked up 400+ hours. I find the most important things are patience and practise!
