I don't like to cycle squad leader. Call it being selfish but I usually have a plan and so many times I've had to leave the squad I created because some moron will not do the same.

However, I've been lucky on quite a few occasions where I've got a kick a$$ squad and this has worked. More often than not however..................

Depends on the eye of the beholder I'd say..

Some place more value in sheer killing skill whether it be in a tank, jet, chopper etc while others factor in a variety of things.

I've met many very skilled players in many different FPS'es but the ones that stand out in BF2 are the skilled ones that make an effort to play as a team and utilize the squad and voip systems.

One of the best teamplayers I've had the fortune to play with was PotUK's JellyMech.

A skilled and lethal infantry player and a great bloke to play with.

One thing that annoys me to no end is arrogance from experienced players.. It serves no purpose and ruins the atmosphere.

In squad infantry play they dont just pick the same kit over and over (cos its got their favorite weapon, ie the only weapon they have figured out how to use), they pick the kit the squad is in need of. If its the start of mashtuur city, and your mec squad is driving round the north east of the map to the BH spawn, then a good player checks the squad has 1 support guy and 1 SF guy, and selects one of those classes if needed, so the squad can take out all commander assets from the get go. Tank causing the squad problems? 2 great players communicate over voip, both take AT and then hit the tank simultaneously with AT rockets in the tracks, job done. A crap player will just keep taking sniper and then bitch and moan when the tank rapes them for 10 kills in a row.

A great bf2 player has the awareness to cycle squad leader without even being prompted if his squad is trying to take a crucial flag and the SL dies.

A great bf2 player knows the most important strategies for a map and gets them done with the help of his team. Defending TV station on USMC sharqi, defending factory on MEC Strike at Krapland, these roles dont harvest the big scores, but they win the round for your team. 2 guys at tv station on Vodnik MGs will save 100s of lives on Sharqi just by killing the Havoc every time it approaches the TV station and keeping the cobra in play and in the air and keeping commander assets defended. A crap bf2 player on sharqi, will choose assault class, spawn at city entrance and bounce around shooting his 203 at the armour and dieing over and over. Or take sniper, climb up the crane and sit there for an entire round to get his 5 kills 0 deaths. Great players dont sit at the tips of wake island spamming the arty island with tanks whilst all the flags are taken behind them on PLA, great players will stay at airfield the entire round, man the AA points and defend it because they know its the most important flag in the map.

These are the kind of players I want in my squad.

Really great post, and I completely agree. I really hate being the only guy that doesn't spawn at the frontline, because you can bet your ass the enemy is going to go for the rear flags (if they know what they're doing). Players needs to watch the flanks and their most crucial outposts.

It takes situational awareness, common sense, knowing when not to engage the enemy, communication, and fast reflexes/quick wit.

Those are all general terms, but VERY important in this game.

These do not apply to vehicles, as the most important aspect in those are amount of training/experience. Then all the other factors mesh in later.

The only quality needed is being a team player. The points will come if you play for your team. I never liked the medic kit until the guys I play with said that we needed one. I tried it out, got the unlocks, and now it's almost my most played kit.

I look for team scores, sure. But, many is the medic that revives you in the sights of the same sniper that just killed you. That's not team play.

Usually the best players are in at a flag cap, or flag defense/recap. They're there right when they're needed. If there's enough folks surrounding the flag to cap it, this player will be on the perimeter covering them, and not getting any points for it.

This player also is IN A SQUAD, and spawns with what kit is needed at the time. If he/she's a squad leader, you'll find this player in a good, covered area for the squad to respawn and get quickly back into things...again at the expense of his/her own score.

In fact, high scores don't impress me. They only impress children. (Read: CHILDREN). You can tell when you're playing on a good team by how many tickets you win by and how fast. If you do it right, often times, the game is over so fast, score whores don't have time to run-up 70 or more points.

Usually, also, when stats on the squad of this "good player" show at the end of the game, he's in a squad where each member has generally the same amount of points.

I can understand attention to your score to get rank and unlocks. Past a certain point it becomes time to play TEAMPLAY and squad play. Good players understand tickets.
All good points, except I disagree w/ 1, when I am medic, & I revive you after you have been killed, I am risking my own neck to revive you, & sincerely hope you have your wits about you sufficiently to get to cover

So I think peeps should be thankful you tried

                peace:)

"Good" players help their team win, NOT themselves to points. I think you are finding out that stats and points are not an indicator of who is good what you would want in a team mate.

I may have 10 or so kills in my game. But what if those were USMC on Karkand on two attempsts to take the factory. How might the battle have been different had they gotton our main?

I would prefer selfless team mates that communicate and work as a team to any deadeye shot whoring points for glory and self gratification.

So your saying that being a team player is not that important because it doesn't matter if your team wins because you won't get more points because only the commander get's the team win bonus.

This kinda reminds me of the star player of the losing basketball team who won't pass the ball. His team lost but he made a bunch of points. Good job.
