I was on Karkand the other day and noticed that one particular player was consistently at the top of the leaderboard. I followed him only to find out that he was one of the biggest spawn camping nade throwers I've ever met!!
Another player on the opposing team ALWAYS had high scores - tank whore parked next to multiple supply crates!
Other maps either the J10 or SU-34 pilots are ALWAYS top of the leaderboard for just spawn bombing greyed out CPs.

What qualities/skills do people think makes a GREAT BF2 PLAYER?

Sometimes peace can only be bought about by WAR!
For a start people who fight on foot.
People who take the different route than the route everyone else goes.

I disagree. Talking on mic like your some kind of actual squad leader sounds abit daft to me.
Done abit of service myself but I never go on mic odering people about.

First of all of course: is able to kill anything, anywhere and almost with anything and raise fear among the enemy. Is aggressive if necessary and brings chaos.

They dont get killed often and may not have high points either. (Usually they do, even if they dont try to)

Is sneaky and has tactical eye. Nothing is more stupid than encounter your enemy in a fair and equal situation. Has to be able to get the advantage for his teams side in any situation out of nowhere.

Patience. Let the enemy make the mistake.

In Battlefield 2 most of the excellent players are also calm and for them chaos is only a good thing. Usually they have got amazing ability to survive in almost any situations, no matter how bad it looks.

IMO the most important for a casual player is not to get killed often, because that's what reduces teams tickets most dramatically. I usually die less than five times in a round. Everytime I see an enemy (avoid facing enemy in cqb) i think twice which are my odds against him. If they're low I'll look for better by flanking him, using terrain or anything.

One may be able win the war by himself, but one can't lose it. Even one great player is able to cause a great difference in score. It's a butterfly effect. Small push here causes a great difference elsewhere. You just have to know where to push. It's exactly what makes the difference between casual player and a real master.

If you score higher than 50 points a round in ranked servers a week it improoves your sex life.

Re: Qualities of a great BF2 player?

Hmmm, all of these are interesting points. BUT, I have to disgree with those who say that being a team player is what matters most. Reason Being? Someone told me recently that the 2X bonus for the win only counts for the winning commander... not sure if this is true or not, but I think it is.

In a squad, I suck, big time. Oh sure I can help out, but I end up with a score like 7 kills and 20 deaths. Hooray for me. Or, I can go lone wolf, be sneaky and rack up 25 kills and 10 deaths. (these are averages in my own estimation and doesn't include when I decide to vehicle whore)

Point is, Aren't I reducing the enemy's tickets a lot more effectively by doing what I do best? why or why not?

When you are in a balanced squad, you can get healed/revived (less deaths) and get your grenades resupplied very quickly, plus your AT guys can take out vehicles for you (and get resupplied) and your SpecOps can blow bridges and assets and he also gets resupplied. Snipers can spot for you and you can direct air support to cover your movements and suppress armor.

The trick in squadding is not to stay clustered and for the SL to hang back and for the kits to be balanced.. When you cluster, you provide a nice fat target for the Commander's arty = *splat*.

When you all click as a team, you're pretty unstoppable.

Voice comm in the squad (B key) *really* helps and is fun too. :)

it's the guy that is willing to sacrifice himself for the team...the guy that wants to win and makes every attempt to cap flags, not hang back and kill people to rack up points (who justify it by saying they've taken their ticket count down)...it's all about the aggressive pursuit of controlling all the spawn points rather than laying in cover and racking up the kills...k:d ratio, total kills, combat score, none of that means anything except a stats boost if your team loses...if you only play to boost stats and aren't willing to do what the team needs or play what kit the team needs then you really aren't that great of a player imo...same goes for jet whores who spawn camp, i fly a lot, but my priorities fall in the following order 1. take down enemy fighters 2. cover my bomber (if applicable) 3. take out helos raping our team 4. finally, ground targets, i fly to support my team, not support my score, if someone spots armor then i'm on my way to take it out for them...imo, teamwork is much more valuable than combat points

Re: Qualities of a great BF2 player?

When I first started playing BF2 I thought that being a team player was the way to go. Ive come to the realize lately that thats just not true at least not by most peoples definition. The reason being that you can work with the other guys all you want but if they are acting like lemmings (running head first toward certin death) its no use. Probably the best thing any player can do is to asses the situation and do whats needed. That does include being a lone wolf at times.
There are, in my mind, 3 things to look for when looking for good players in the pubs. The ability to correctly asses the situation and act accordingly. Being able to choose the right kit (and play it as well) at the right time. Then being able to put or help put the enemy in a bad situation (a position that will cause the enemy to loose a lot of tickets).
A "bad position" is a concept thats hard to explain. The simpliest way is to give one example. The most common example is, taking the flag at the main enemy armor spawn or making them keep a piece of armor there to defend it.
Most teams you play against, in the pubs, will have one or two things they do best. Realizeing this and making them have to do something else is what all good players do. Remember your most deadly weapon is your brain. Think about it. . . . . . . . .Red

Re: Qualities of a great BF2 player?

The best BF 2 players disregard their own scores and go for the team win. Some players, if they're good at what they do, are naturally inclined to score more - specifically fighter jocks and chopper pilots.
Thats true, although 99% of the time, unless you are C4ing enemy armor or just being anti tank...if you are a good player you will have high scores anyways even helping out the team....

Honestly, even without vehicles if you know what you are doing its not that hard to get top of the server running around capping flags.

The ONLY team thing I can think of where your score really sucks but you help out the team with is repairing assets and friendly armor etc...

Re: Qualities of a great BF2 player?

A great BF2 player, can and will use every weapon, kit and vehicle in the game. They have the ability to pilot or co-pilot every chopper and plane. If they are in a tank, they take engineer and will keep the other intelligent players in armour fixed up.

In squad infantry play they dont just pick the same kit over and over (cos its got their favorite weapon, ie the only weapon they have figured out how to use), they pick the kit the squad is in need of. If its the start of mashtuur city, and your mec squad is driving round the north east of the map to the BH spawn, then a good player checks the squad has 1 support guy and 1 SF guy, and selects one of those classes if needed, so the squad can take out all commander assets from the get go. Tank causing the squad problems? 2 great players communicate over voip, both take AT and then hit the tank simultaneously with AT rockets in the tracks, job done. A crap player will just keep taking sniper and then bitch and moan when the tank rapes them for 10 kills in a row.

A great bf2 player has the awareness to cycle squad leader without even being prompted if his squad is trying to take a crucial flag and the SL dies.

A great bf2 player knows the most important strategies for a map and gets them done with the help of his team. Defending TV station on USMC sharqi, defending factory on MEC Strike at Krapland, these roles dont harvest the big scores, but they win the round for your team. 2 guys at tv station on Vodnik MGs will save 100s of lives on Sharqi just by killing the Havoc every time it approaches the TV station and keeping the cobra in play and in the air and keeping commander assets defended. A crap bf2 player on sharqi, will choose assault class, spawn at city entrance and bounce around shooting his 203 at the armour and dieing over and over. Or take sniper, climb up the crane and sit there for an entire round to get his 5 kills 0 deaths. Great players dont sit at the tips of wake island spamming the arty island with tanks whilst all the flags are taken behind them on PLA, great players will stay at airfield the entire round, man the AA points and defend it because they know its the most important flag in the map.

These are the kind of players I want in my squad.
