    Re: Support guide

This is a great guide, I think many people can't handle the kit, because they don't know how to play it. :)

      Re: Support guide

I play all kits. But.. you have to give credit where credit is due, in the screenshots I noticed 2 medics as he was bragging about his score (thread starter) they in essence kept him alive as they should be doing to a SL. But enough of that.

Support to me are people that have blinders on. They dont know what is going on around them, they look forward and thats it. Support pixels I kill the most as they are spraying and praying, thier biggest mistake is going prone, they are immobile that way and an easy target ( I kill more Support with the AT than any other (besides engy) kit because thier first action is to go prone). Some instances the Support kit is supposed to be in back of the pack, its not your Meatshield, but I see inexperienced players go to the front of the line.

      How I play support:

Prone is your advantage and weakness along with accuracy. Depending on the weapon you choose ( I use defaults) you have an advantage with one over the other. The RPK is the best Support weapon in the game and up close you dont have to go prone, use it like a shotgun. I know I said 'dont rush or be first inline' but if you are a lonewolf nadechucker and decide to move in, go in like you own the place, because you will, dont go prone though. Since Shotguns are my favorite weapons, Its easy for me to do. The SAW is extremely deadly up close because of the ROF (SAWs suck long range but in close its deadly, RPK-74 is even across the board). You might hit walls and such but the standing up walking towards the enemy will win. The slower ROF's I wouldnt rush with, PKM is strictly ( in my book) a long/er distance prone weapon. One weapon gaining more popularity is the MG36 in which you can stand up firing like a madman and actually get some decent kills with.

As support if you prone it, DO NOT stay in that area, move around, because the person (unless you are spawncamping) you just killed is going to knife you in the back.

Not saying anyone cant do things, but saying that most of the Support guys dont know what they are doing or have tunnel vision. But I beg pro support guys, keep going prone and staying put, I'll rack up some points that way with the SRAW or AK.

MEC- this gun is useless, go and use an unlock as PKM or MG36.

        You're joking right.

Whenever i used to be support this always used to be my favorite gun

          :)
This guide was started in April 2006. At the time, the RPK was only marginally better than the SAW.

And since I don't use the RPK even to this day, no, I'm not joking.

RPK was never a crap weapon, even in 2005. Just no one knew how to use it. Look a the dmg/dev charts and you'll see no change, why is that? Because people are so intuned on ranking up and getting new toys that they forgot about the defaults. I use nothing but defaults these days. But use whatever weapon suits you and you feel comfortable with. I too, was one of those dummies that decided the PKM was the best support weapon, boy was I surprised when I went back to defaults. If you dont use the RPK, you are complete nub, why would you use anything else?!? It has dmg/dvg and accuracy.

PKM does more damage than the RPK and believe it or not, some people prefer damage not accuracy.

                Re: Support guide

                I LoL at chart analysts..

In theory, RPK would be better.. yet after 2 years of using the PKM.. I get more kills with PKM.

I would wager that of my 18k or so LMG kills.. easily 16k are from PKM alone.
Numerical data under consideration, yes, I should use RPK, however, I don't.

There are tricks to the PKM which most people don't think to find out, and hence, the RPK noobs of todays IO servers were the same jackals who spent the first 400 hours of their play time as spec-ops using G36C.

Those who gravitate towards todays sliced-bread aren't necessarily bad people, they play to win, and use a powerful weapon to accomplish that. Fine.

I, and relatively few others, stuck with one weapon more than any other for their BF2 career simply because it appealed to them more than just arbitrary numerics. There was a time when I had a lower than 1 k/d ratio with LMGs.. that was when I still was experimenting with the guns (and to a latter extent.. it was patch 1.01.. EVERY support gun was ****. Don't illude yourself and say otherwise) but now, now I have a nearly 2 k/d with support guns, and that takes into consideration all the times I was killed playing on vehicle maps, got bombed, arty.. everything.

Summary: it's not about *what* you use, it's about *how*.

Its NOT the weapon, but how you use it. I'd take a Fast ROF anyday over the PKM. I too was a PKM fanatic, until getting blasted as I turned a corner because the PKM ROF and inaccuracy, I do the same with other LMG's and the person is down. PErsonal Preference, yes - but I was commenting on the Guide on how its was boiled down to ones personal preference, if so you should have written the differences and why the PKM is better.

And who cares about stats dude. Seriously, anyone can get points and up their crap, I stopped caring about stats... since I started. Dont get me started on Stats.

I must have overlooked this guide when I started out. Would have been helpful. To each his own but I like the RPK for overall fighting. But the PKM is deadly at long range. Since I play support a lot I loathe snipers that prey on me when I am proning. Its nice to get them back with the distance and accuracy of the PKM.

There is a reason weapon stats are used by some people: they are specific and accurate representations of the weapon. And the RPK-74 pwns the PKM in the game as well as on the stat sheet.

                      Cheers

You can buy the best Putter and play against tiger woods and even there you would lose.

                          @MrBenis' Video:

No offense, but I don't care that much if it's spoken commentary oder written - I want the video, I want it, I want it!
I remember a Chopper Gunner Guide Video which used oral comments... it was odd in the beginning (it were a couple of vids), but I got used to it - so did probably others.

                          @Weapon Discussion:
I used the PKM as my main support weapon from 1.02 to I think 1.20
One certain patch changed the PKM and I had a hard time getting used to it, it appeared to me it wouldn't hit crap except for point blank!
After playing lots of hours with other kits, I got back to the support and now I use the RPK for MEC and PKM for the rest.
Dunno if they re-changed the weapon meanwhile or it's me who got used to it again...
I also like the RPK coz imho it's better when you are engaging multiple targets at close/medium range than the PKM.

Anyway, as others said, you are good with what you are comfortable with.
Or you feel good when you (think you) look good and thus you do good.

                              Just wondering...
there are many comparisons between RPK-74 and PKM.
Only a few post mentioning the MG36 and comparing this to the others.
Is there a reason? is it less accurate or less destructive?
i am asking as I am wondering if I should unlock this or other weapons.
                              thanks

Mg36 is less powerful and less accurate than RPK. And it not russian made:)
