    Re: Support guide

There are two styles of playing support. One is hang back and use it like a stationary MG, and other is to rush into enemy base and cause havoc.

RPK74 and MG36 is extremely good at rushing due to their decent ROF, damage. RPK74 is especially good at that, plus I love its feel.

PKM sucks at close range, but it's accurate, packs a huge punch and has 100 bullets. It's great a med/long range.

The RPK has the lowest ROF of all the LMGs. I suggest you use the M249 for rushing, OR you can use it for long range.. it's deadly accurate.

This is very untrue: The RPK has the highest damage of all the three LMG's (albit a slower rate of fire) but this damage increase lets the RPK kill unarmored infantry in THREE shots, as opposed to four. The PKM can do this as well, but has a slower rate of fire than the RPK. Also, the MG36 kills in 4 shots, not three. When looking at armored classes, the RPK kills in 5 shots, as opposed to its PLA and USMC counterparts which kill in 7. The MG36 kills in 6, and the PKM (with all it's power) kills in 4, but has spraying accuracy issues and slow rate of fire.

Less shots also means greater accuracy, as less time will be spent spraying at the target, as opposed to a quick three shot burst.

There are also two other commodities that the RPK has: When prone (WITHOUT ZOOM), it has a .08 deviation, as opposed to .1 deviation when in zoom. The other two basic support guns only have a max .1 deviation, which shows that the RPK is better. This ability is present in the unlocks as well, yet for reasons mentioned above, the RPK is superior.
In addition, the RPK's spraying accuracy is better than both the USMC's LMG and PKM. It is on par with the Chinese support gun and unnoticably less accuracte than the MG36 when spraying.

As you can see, the RPK is a very good support gun, and I'd personally pick it over any unlock in a game.

EDIT, @ REPSTOCK: You quote, "The RPK has the lowest ROF of all the LMGs. I suggest you use the M249 for rushing, OR you can use it for long range.. it's deadly accurate."

The RPK has a ROF of 600, which is still faster than the PKM (450). Also, it kills light infantry in 3 shots, as opposed to 4 for the USMC lmg. Also, it takes the RPK 5 shots to kill armored as opposed to 7 by the USMC. In addition, like I said above, the RPK is more accurate without zoom, and this allows it to attain a greater accuracy than the M249. Also, the M249 spray is pitiful compared to the RPK. The only option is to use the saw with single shots, by which, someone could probably find cover by then.

Ha Ha. No, I just go prone and zoom and shoot at guys down the street and I hardly ever hit anybody. I try aiming low and letting the recoil bring the sights up or or aim right at them and keep the sights on them. Nothing.

            Re: Support guide

Okay, I don't know why you're having such trouble... If you're prone (and you really do need to be prone if you want to hit anything but a barn door at more than 2m range) you should be okay with the PKM... As has been said in this thread several times, it's reasonably accurate over medium and longer ranges. Did you never see the "PKM is new sniper rifle" threads following the 1.2 patch? Granted it's been toned down slightly now, but it's still good. And I have used it to kill snipers at reasonable ranges with it too - in a direct one-on-one firefight, not simply by catching them by surprise. To be fair, I don't think they were very good snipers, but you get my point - it really can kill at range.

The two biggest things to say for support in terms of accuracy are: "prone", and "short, controlled bursts". Don't just spary and pray with them. You could try some suppressing fire to keep hostile heads down if you're close-support for a squad, but don't expect to hit anything. If you want to kill, don't just hold the trigger down. Fire a few quick bursts at your target and you should score some hits. And with the damage that the PKM deals out, you don't need to register many before you get the kill message...

              Re: Support guide

Thanks for the good advice. I do all that and they still shoot me. I can be on the Train Accident ramp shooting at the guys on top near the houses and they still get me.

Same deal with the Jackhammer and DAO-12. I can empty a full clip into guys at close range while he's on the floor and they still shoot me with 1-3 shots. Pretty sad... Sometimes I can get them, but not often. Then a guy with a DAO-12 can shoot me dead from 30 feet away with 2-3 shots.

              Maybe I'm shooting blanks?

That will be ineffective with the PKM. Aim for the waist/chest.

Additionally, fire in bursts between 2 and 5 bullets, especially for long range (eg, from suburb to square on karkand). The PKM is really a gun you need to develop a "feel" for. It's not like a shotgun, where you just pick it up, point in the general direction and click, one must develop a sense of timing, and learn good positions AND MOST IMPORTANTLY:: escape tactics.

BTW I'm too retarded to make a movie with fraps or whatever, so it'll take a whiiiiiiile.

LoL.. I admit, I haven't even started on the movie yet (been fooling around with Oblivion and C&C:G) however, since you want it, I'll start making it tonight.

Red Devil - The train accident ramp is a no-no. Avoid it like the plague. Since my movie will be based on the map of karkand (best place for infantry tactics, whether you like to admit it or not) I'll show you what to do in that situation.

No I won't be editing out times when I die. Dying happens.

BTW, best team to play on kark is MEC. Don't believe me? Look at my pictures in the original post, always MEC.

                        Re: Support guide

I got bored of using my sniper rifle, so I decided to snipe with my PKM. Pretty damn good. Not as accurate, but when you're shooting a lot bursts into the enemy, one of them is bound to hit them and well, you do have infinite ammo.

In fact, you guys need to take a PKM to the top of the crane in the construction site in Sharqi. Awesome times, plus you get to supply the snipers that go up there.

lol. I have the same issue with every single support weapon. I end up drawing a silhouette of bullet holes in the shape of a running enemy on the wall before a single hit indicator is shown. Personally I have killed more than twice as many people with any other weapon in the game than I have the supports main gun

I truely suck with it. Im just amazed when I see a single pkm guy take out an entire squad in about 3 seconds. I'm more efficient to just use a well aimed pistol than the machine gun and pray my armour holds!
