I have shot down many pilots who were far from braindead with guns :) We were doing it before 1.2 (and notice how no one was complaining then) and we still have to do it now.

Oh, and just to speak my mind here: I doubt that he knows what he's talking about: 20 hours in a jet, most of that post-1.2.
You still dont get it. Sure you can shoot down idiots in J10s if they never watch their back or dont know how to afterburn and almost immediately get out of the effective combat zone of the F35.

There is no way to effectively beat a J10 while in the F35, none, zilch.

The reason no one was complaining then was because all missiles were not effective enough to even shoot down the F35, so the dogfights were much more interesting. But now as we all know every missile will hit the F35 whereas very very very few will hit a J10, causing a huge balance issue.

Also you might want to remove that quote as I'm sure I'm a much better pilot than you

When using canons, make sure you hit EVERY round, that is so the other pilot doesn't see the tracers, because when planes take damage from canon fire they barely shake at all, sometimes not noticed at all before death.

let me get this straight here..

You're saying that before 1.2 it was possible for an f35b to shoot down a j10, whereas nowadays it's impossible, when the actualy performance of both jets has remained the same as they were. It used to be guns vs. guns. Now it's guns vs. guns & missles.

Not making much sense there bud..

wrong. There wasnt much complaining because of the fact it was a challenge to down the F35 while in a J10 before, so there was no such dominance before.

Now its still hard as hell to down a J10, but its much much easier to down F35. That is the problem. Its a huge balance issue.

Re: How to survive in an f-35b

Have you ever flown a jet pre-1.2? Remember how we were all shooting down J-10s back then? Guess how we did it.

              With guns.

Yes, that's right, before 1.2 guns were the main weapon in dogfighting and the j-10 was no exception to this.

Oh, and I have no trouble whatsoever keeping pace with the majority of J10 pilots.
well thats true. though i did use missles where i could. its just. your crazy to do so now.

Oh really? So you're proposing that you just fly around at a normal height, leaving it to chance whether or not someone gets on your tail and letting every AA site in the vicinity lock on to you?

The difference in maneauvreablity between the j10 and F-35b is not (and was not) significant enough to stop someone who knows how to dogfight from shooting down an enemy jet.
it definately is now though. The time it takes to chaingun a fullhealth enemy plane who isnt flying like a massive nub is too long. is so much time that you will probably end up getting his friend behind you. sending friendly little missles at you.

You launch missles when they have the most chance of hitting, wich is AFTER your enemy has dropped his flares and is not doing a full turn. Firing missles in an other situation is a waste - plain and simple.
ya, but the problem is. you cant keep lock on a j10 in a turn. which it then gets out of your view and you cant follow because he can switch turning sides and go up instead of right and you wont even know he went up. BUUUT if the f-35 is followed by a j10 it has no chance of out turning. because the j10 can turn more easy. Something ive been trying lately is SOON AS i get lock launch 1 missle. there's a pretty good chance it will get through flares and hit. and oddly. if the missle hits the j10 kinda looses spunk or something cause then i can follow them and kill them.

I suggest you learn how to fly before saying that an f35 has no chance of keeping up with a j10.
I know how to fly. and I happen to know the stats which state that the j10 turns faster then the f-35. Infact they posted the information in the forum. Sure f-35 can keep behind a j10 if the j10 is a supernub.

Hmmmm, i spose there are some helpful hint there.

But if your in a F-35 and you get a J-10 on your arse, my best advice is bend over as far as you can, place your head between you knees and kiss your arse good bye! )))):)

Re: How to survive in an f-35b

speaking of those stats munky, not only does the J10 have superior turning, but also superior lock on.

Someone looked this up and found that the time it takes to lock on each jet.

It takes 1 second to lock onto an F35
It takes 1.5 seconds to lock onto the J10

Does that even come near to making sense? Sure .5 seconds doesnt sound too long, but in a dog fight against a far superior jet, that extra .5 seconds seems like a lifetime.

So now not only is it impossible to stay with the J10, its even more impossible with the long lock time.

Its crazy, DICE must have been smokin

Re: How to survive in an f-35b

Sarge, your article is quite correct and I also feel that the people critiqueing your article are correct. Everything said here is a tool for the tool box when flying, but on the same note you dont use a screwdriver for a nut and you dont use a wrench to tighten a screw. If you do use the wrong tool for the job you just make life harder on yourself.

That being said, I would first like to address the issue concerning the F35's ability to shoot down the J10.
Yes, it is very much possible but It is obviously harder to shoot down a more maneuverable foe that can evade missles most of the time, but if you start to read your opponent, note his minor mistakes and exploit them it will level the playing field more in your favor, on the other hand if you fail to do this and he implements it, it wont matter what jet you fly, better tactics will win. Things to note might seem frivolous or minor but they arent, does he slow down when rearming over his air field? what is his cruising altitude? (what height does he like to fly at). when you lock on to him what direction does he normally break to, left right up or down? does he pop flares imediatly or does he wait until a missle actually fires? does he slow down to engage ground targets?

Being attentive will keep you on the offensive vs the defensive which, lets all be honest, is non existant with the F35. I like to think of the engagements between jets like a game of chess, If I can I'll try to force my opponent into a certain course of action that I can predict and therefor prepare for and exploit. Example, I'll fly at around 680 to 700 feet turned 45 degres using the corner of my screen to spot hostile jets. not only do I fly faster at this altitude but if I start to evade MAINTAINING my alititude It makes it harder (not impossible) for a j10 to track me. also I dont need afterburner to maintain speed also elminating contrails which also makes it harder to track me( contrails will show if you turn).

Now, when I do spot a j10 I look for moments of vulnterability, as described above, if he likes cutting his throttle...hes done, no debate there. I like to loiter near the enemy air field at 700 feet, If I dont see him for a while and I see his name with a j10 next to the kill I go to where the kills are happening, this is why you want to be very attentive. Dont drop for helos or tanks, remember hes out there and your vulnerable your target priority should be jets, aa, helos, tanks, then everything else, so maintain altitude and hunt for him until hes found.

when you spot him, congrats your halfway there, this is subjective, but I find this the most valuable skill when flying, It doesnt matter how good you are at shooting down jets if theyre always behind you :) . so now all you have to do is be patient, watch his orientation, you generally want to be above him pretty high until he goes in for a bomb run or rearm, Now once again pay attention to how he responds, when you feel you have a nice opening to dive down on him do it, stay in bomb mode until you want to attack. depending on his flying level you can probably engage with a missle lock while simultaniously fireing guns into his engine. the missles might miss but the guns always do SOME damage, and this is where your playing chess in the air, now you can predict he will most likely go back to his air field for repairs and or a rearm. right after you hit him pull up and go back to the highest possible altitude around 700 feet, and head to his air field and wait...and wait. if you maintain an engagement with a j10 after your intial engagement his rate of turn and speed will turn you into a pile of wreckage if hes in any way competent. think about it, hes damaged looking over his shoulder, he might go after you for a minute but hes gonna be heading back to the airfield because all good pilots know a smoke trail makes you easier to spot and a much more tempting target for ground aa and jets. Now when you see him below you at the air field you do the same thing and hit him again, keep him out of the fight and chip away at his armor.

YOu might have a noob and kill him with your first lock or you might have a seasoned vet and he'll make you repeat this for a while but the point is youll take him out of the fight and you'll have the initiative not him, you want to be on the offensive not the defensive when given a choice. You always want to ask yourself, what would I do if I was in his position? assume he is the most skilled pilot you have ever flown against, give him credit until he proves with out shadow of a doubt he is the village idiot with wings.

I dont want people thinking this is a standard SOP on taking down jets, ITS NOT!!! Paying meticulous attention to your suroundings and enemy, and reacting to that, are what will seriously raise your life expectancy in a jet (no matter what jet you fly), thats what I'm trying to emphasize here, the above example is just that, and example of how you might use the information given, to your advantage. He might read this and the next time you try this, he'll be on to you, try to anticipate what he does, Is he smart? is he stupid? is he predictable? is he a throttle cutter? if you light him up on a bombing run does he panic and hit a tree? ( youd be surprised how often that works). Adapt and overcome, if you keep getting shot down, what's he doing right? what am I doing wrong? it's all too easy to blame the jet, complain, swear and call the guy a hacker and spawn raper. Try to assess what your doing and seek to get better by identifying your shortcomings and fixing them and improving on already effective tactics.

In closing, the F35 is vastly inferior to the J10 and other jets in BF2 but by using better tactics and thinking, thinking, thinking you can make to where the f35 is a much more formidable threat to other hostile aircraft. Even if you find a little tactic that raises the odds of winning from 40% of the time to 45% percent of the time, imagine 4 or 5 of these tactics, youll be winning 70% of the time vs a j10, but once again it all depends on the enemy. the battle in the air in this game is very dynamic and as such so should your tactics. I hope this helps, and I'll try to find the time to write a comprehensive guide like I did in our clan forums.

This stuff doesn't help much with J10 vs F35B. The only thing that'll keep you alive long enough to grab some kills is flying high or flying against an amateur. These days I just use the F35B as a transport to the enemy J10.

ya. I dunno. your right of coarse. but i honestly dont find it that much of a difference when its plane your locking on. But helicopters is a huge difference. flying slow. j10 can lock on, flares drop and your back locked on 1 second earlier. now thats a huge factor. with the f-35 i dont even bother with the slowdown method because that 1 second longer lock on means you fly right by. though im pretty good with chain gun on them. so they die anyway.

on the topic of plane vs plane. its a huge deal more with the turning speed. Since missles now will turn way more then any plane. So any turn wont evade any missles. so the way to live is to flares and then make it so the enemy cant get lock. But if its the j10. it automatically will get lock because its more manueverable. which is why i can take the j10 on wakeisland and never die. With the exception of those stupid mother ****ing trees. they always jump into the way and Teamkill me. Those bastards. but if i get in f-35. the only way i can stay in the air is by my team keeping the airfield flag.

so true lol. I often find myself just taking the f-35 to the airfield and capture it. usa just cant win the round if the j10s are in the air.

I know my above post was long winded but, I take down j10's all the time, most people are careless in one aspect or another and you can exploit that carelessness to your advantage, that being said I think its unfortunate that people people are already throwing in the towel, sure I like to steal the j10 any chance I get but I also find a way to take pot shots at passing j10s while keeping the jet on the run way from taking off. I seriously doubt I'm an Uber pilot so If I can do it I know others can. BTW, if I shoot down the j10 it is NOT taking off again, it had its chance, if its down I'm keeping it down. I'm always looking to get better in the air and if you want to get better also meet me on the ||3RB|| ranked server and write me a message and I'll give you the ip to our teamspeak so we can collaborate. Yes, but as it used to be it's not impossible to down a J10, even if the pilot has some experience. (read: Is not pro :p) That was the point of this whole thread: To give some advice on how to actually stay alive and maybe get a kill.
