Hi. I'm Sarge. I spend lots of time in a jet, and I'm sick of seeing a new f-35b spawning on Wake Island every minute. So, here's a quick guide on How not to die!
What's the best way not to get shot down in a jet? Don't get someone on your tail. ALWAYS fly high. NEVER fly in a straight/predictable line. ALWAYS fly in bomb mode unless if you actually want to kill something. check your rear view every few seconds quickly.
What's high? It depends on the map, but generally you can find me at 500 feet up. If you're in an f-35b and thus have a huge disadvantage over the enemies j-10, Just stay up, then fly down with an angle steep enough to let you see enemy jets, but not so you go straight back down again. Just gently fly down across the map, keeping an eye out for enemy jets. Make sure you don't go down too low!
So, you've seen the enemies flying noobtube? Time to fly straight down missles blazing right?!
WRONG
Stay in bomb mode, and stalk it untill they're in friendly territory. Preferably out of ammo and/or damaged. Don't spend too long sneaking behind them or they're bound to notice you in their rear view when someone on an AA site down below locks onto them. Get in right behind your opponent. Not too close. Stay further away if you have the luxury of übermissles, a bit closer by for guns. If you're in an F-35b, you'll be needing the second option.
Now comes the exciting moment - actually shooting things! YAY! STILL IN BOMB MODE, launch a volley of bullets right into your enemies backside. Do this right, and they won't even have time to say 'oh noes!' before Cheung Yu-Kit will be pushing up the daisies.
If you failed to gun them down, it's time for missles! Switch over to missle mode and let em drop their flares, Now switch back again. do NOT immediatley go back to missles once the flares are out of sight! Your opponent will be forced to constantly check his rear to see if you're still there or not. Don't bother firing missles if your opponent is pulling as many G's he can. Launch a missle inbetween turns, or whenever else they're flying straight. Do this one or two at a time, then switch back to guns and try again.
Taking down a superior jet is NOT easy! When I'm in a j-10, I don't stick to any of the rules mentioned above. Whereas in an f-35 you'll need everything you can get to take down an enemy that has superior maneauvreablity and a high chance of dodging missles.
Suppresion is by far the best way to keep your enemy out of the air. Constantly bomb and gun the living crap out of an enemy base to ensure that your fellow US troops can actually get onto wake island rather than being wtfbbqpwnzored constantly!
Follow these steps:
1) Make sure there aren't actually any enemy jets in the air already!
2) Take out any AA sites!
3) now proceed to destroy anything that spawns! Don't wait for enemies to actually GET IN the vehicles, just blow em up with guns straight away! Save your bombs, They're a usefull last-resort should things go wrong *cough*noob*cough*
If you're truly leet, get some teammates to provide support - Snipers to get rid of AA turrets, Someone to eryx a jet should things go wrong. Best of all, do it with two jets! You'll have to reload/repair eventually, wich will give the opposition plenty of time to move out again, whereas with two jets one can get new bombs while the other blows stuff up. Cunning, eh?
Of course, teamwork doesn't exist on pubs, so we'll just leave it at that.
Should things go really wrong (eg. A strange and annoying beeping noise coming from your jet followed by engine failure) Your main goal is to get out of their missle lock. Confirm that there actually is someone on your tail who can kill you and is not just passing by. if there is, Roll to the left/right, launch your flares (due to the rolling the will be launched upwards meaning they cover you longer) keep rolling untill you're upside down and turn as sharply as you can. Fly low to the ground. Now do the "S" move: Hit the afterburners, do half a looping, turn around, do another half a looping, then fly straight down again. You'll gain lots of speed and hopefully your persuer will lose control of his jet due to going too high (Hence: afterburners) if he doesn't, use the speed you gain from flying down to get the hell out of there.
Of course, you can also just lure enemy jets into chasing you - straight into the lock of the uss Essex. (manned by a teammate who is paying attention rather than watching the funny little icons on the commander screen)
If you do have missles on your tail with no hope of escape, just die, unless if you enjoy swimming or are particularly close to your carrier
At the time of writing this I am extremly tired (and somewhat annoyed. hence: Thread) so forgive me if things don't make sense. If you'd like to know anything else, do ask.
And remember: Landing is 1337!
