Knives and pistols should be allowed.

Severs should be allowed to be sniper only, or support only. Servers should be allowed to impose most restrictions as they see fit. However there will also be exceptions to this. Sure the servers would require a little more monitoring but it can and should be done.

I don't know what I would do if I couldn't log onto CS and go a few rounds of shotties or mac-10s only. BF2 would benefit from this addition.

How about making them all ranked and YOU go play on the normal ones.
How do you like them apples.


It should be sanctioned by EA, people that would like to play a few games of knives, shotties or w/e only should be able to do so on a ranked server. Why should they not get credit for their play time b/c some of the BF2 community does not approve of this unconventional style of play, and besides its not really up to you or me...EA/DICE are going to do what they want, they always have and always will.

I had a go on one of these servers the other day, it was great fun. I've never played medic and it was a good way of practicing. Also learn't that the pistol recoil seems to be an animation effect, you can blast away rapidly and still get hit registers even when the pistol is mid recoil. Previously I'd waited for the recoil to finish before firing another shot, but you don't have to.

I don't see any harm in these servers, except when you forget it's pistol & knifes and lob a grenade into a group of server admins....kick time

they cannot kick you for using other weapons.....that is against the ROE...a server can be advertised as knife and pistol only, but that is only the desired game-play, it cannot be enforced, or it is in violation of the ROE....the only way to remove players using other weapons would be through a kick-vote

think about it, if an admin does not enforce knife-pistol only, then the only thing that sets it apart from any other server, is the server-name...surely there is no rule against having a server-name that requests knife-pistol as the type of play

Without rules, the world would be in total chaos. Imagine if all drugs and all gambling, and all prostitution were totally legal. yea, you'ld have Las Vegas! haahah nah!! You'd have total bedlam. So, by your line of thinking, all types of servers should legally be allowed to be ranked. That would send the stats system into a chaotic mess!

The problem that i see with pistol and knife only(ranked) is that say for karkand. People moslty meet between the hotel and square flags and fight it out there now due to the fact that both teams will be able to spawn close to each other and fight right away means that players playing on these sever will get a lot more kills /ammo supplys/revies/heal (points) then if playing on another standard sever for the same amount of time (not in all cases but in most), now the problem with this is the hole rank issue, because you will have one set of players who could gain a high amount of points for having fun playing pistol and knife sever and another group having fun but getting less points but putting the same ammount of time and effort in to the game.
Im not really to fussed about ranks points the only reason i keep note of mine is for my unlocks (but as i only have 2 left and another 25k until i get them im not that bothered) or to see how my scores compare to friends. Problem being ea/dice made this ranking system weather its fair or not tanks, apcs, jets ect is a diffrent matter but the pistol knife severs are a change from the way the points system was made, they make it easyer to make a higher score per round.

IMO if you want pistol and knife only go play unranked, many people in this game DO play for there rank, stat paders ect have messed up the ranking system enough lets not add more to it, after all if you are only playing pistol and knife BECUSE ITs FUN then it shouldnt matter if its ranked or not.. should it?

anyway these pistol sever can be a great fight :box: if you find one where they stick to certain rules !! i dont mean the ones for BIG scores where you just run round and have big pile ons for heal and knife kills .i mean ones like:-
pistols,knives,grenades,claymores,etc all the same but just small weapons.still play for the flags and command as normal.
There are several versions out there which still involves a certain type of skill.

Even if E.A did'nt expect this to happen, which i think they must have stumbled on it first !?!
they could make it so that we could it right ? Patch in some version of that gamplay or stop it all together ...surely...



Also does anyone know if there is a "BF2 T.V." Broadcast of any kind ??? if not there should be !

The ranking system and having rules is about fairness to players, increasing SKILL, and a level playing field. The ranking system includes different levels of badges for different SKILL levels, from basic to expert. Now why would someone deserve to have a virtual expert knife or pistol badge, when they get it on a server that is only using knives and pistols? They shouldn't, and that is why they are illegal. It is a award designed to reflect that you learned how to actually use the piece of equipment in normal gameplay, not on a server that makes it so you have no choice.

If indeed you play them because they are FUN, than playing on unranked servers shouldn't even be an issue for you.

Thats understandable, and completely rational. Which is why I feel that it is better the way EA has it now is best, even though I don't agree with it...I still believe its the best method.

I still think i should be ranked on AT only server :p

Knife/pistol/revive servers increase the length of the round and point potential artificially higher than is reasonable in a normal round of gameplay. This leads to some players receiving much higher points over others, which upsets the normal cadence of the ranking system and goes against the intentions of the designers.

It's not allowed - get over it.

It's anecdote time
Soccer - if you play in competition, in leagues and in cups you abide by the rules in full. don't like it? then you can't play
However, you feel like playing football 7v7 or no offside rule or using the barriers of the pitch as in play, then you are perfectly entitled to but you may not use those same rules when you play in the league.

BF2 ranked servers are a giant league of players - you play by the rules
Unranked servers are the equivalent of having a kick about on the street with friends
This is what the BF2 community wants and frankly you can go to hell with your stupid comments
