Well...there are two different things you get from ATI when you download them.

You get the Driver (which is 6.3) itself and you get Catalyst Control Center which is basically a program to tweak the settings of the driver.

You DONT have to download them together and its possible youve been downloading JUST the driver and not the new control centers, which means you'd have a terribly outdated control center but the newest driver.

Well, when i could still download drivers (right now the link to the drivers on ATi is dead) there were three downloads. THe first one was the required download, which was like the baseline, and that was released in 2004, i didn't download that cause i think i already have that. The second was the 6.3 drivers, via Catalyst control Center, and the third was some AVIVO support drivers, and it said 'X1000 Series Only'.

The ones i saw on the 6.3 page was

          6.3 Driver by itself
6.3 Driver + Catalyst Control Center
ATI Video Encoder thingy (some new crap they added to it)

Well, i'll have to look at it after ATI gets the drivers page running again.

i dont think its a feature on he X800XL, my X800 pro had it, but it only OCed the core not th mem and it was just check box, my X850 XT had it but it was a slider and i could OC mem and core, all the X1k's have it..

oh yeah some food for thought on the 7900 GT (summary screw t get the X1800 XT 256 for 300 instead if you care to now why read the rest of my post)

finally found a review that compared X1800 XT to 7900 GT (most compare the XL lol)

review is at firing squad, all the links im gonna post are form 1600x1200 4xAA 16xAF

                Battlefield 2

                Quake 4

                FEAR

                COD2

                HL2: Lost Coast

Far Cry (Ox AA w/ HDR, ATI can do HDR+AA though so remember that)

                Nvidia wins in

                LOMAC

                Pacific Fighters

Serious Sam 2 (though 1800XT still beats 7900 GT)

                Sapphire X1800 XT 256 $299

                Evga 7900 GT $299
                http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130281

Remember kiddies, the X1800 XT is a hell of a lot> faster than it was in october, I've seen significant increase from driver releases (700+ points in 3D05, 12 FPS in CS:S stress test, 8-10 FPS average increase in BF2), oh yeah and then throw in my favorite HRD+AA and HQAF argument.

BTW, the nvidia 7900GT sells for 320 now, cause it got out of stock so quickly.

Looks like the x1900XTX is still the best card for BF2...

And by quite a long way, the 7900 GTX falls behind the x1800XT!!

Yes, but the ATI cards seems to be doing much better when the AA and AF are turned up, when they are disabled the gap is far less and sometimes the other way around.

No, we shouldn't, but Anandtech also shows the same thing.
