yeh its an AMD 64 althon 3400+ which is a socket 754 processor, unless they have updated it recently :-/ which means it doesn't actually support dual channel memory, but the e-machines has dual channel memory, so either my information is wrong or emachines is wrong.

Oh, well it sucks that the 3400+ didnt have 2000MHz(1000x2) system bus

Still, nice buy, except for the vid card IMO.

No it's 939, 754s can't have dual channel RAM.

according to the AMD website socket 939 athlon 3400+ dont actually exist.

The socket 745 3400 is 2.4Ghz, it is not 754 it is 939. Just because it isn't sold in stores doent' mean AMD doesn't make it. They will make special products for manufacturers.

Try finding info about an Athlon XP2900+, same sort of thing. TigerDirect had a bunch of them a year or so ago, and they most likely got them as overstock or whatever from HP/Gateway (or whichever one of them was selling systems with that cpu in it). AMD for quite a while now has been putting out off-numbered cpu's for places like HP.

From what I've read AMD originally manufactured them for an OEM, the OEM changed their mind after manufacturing was done, so AMD dumped them on the market, but never officially acknowledged them.

Post up what's you'd build here, better than that for under $600. I don't think you can.

Wow, this thread all of a sudden became popular. The vid card we got isn't the best, but he only plays Everquest 2. But it seems like a great PC for the price.
