eMachines not so bad?

I went to Best Buy with some friends yesterday and we picked pu a new emachines for $600 (US). I was the most knowledgable person about computers with them and I noticed that this one had an AMD 64 3400+ with 1 gig, but only had integrated GFX. I continued to read the psecs and came across the fact that it had PCI express. I asked one of the employees if it was x16 and he siad it was. ! So we ended up getting it and a x1300pro PCI-E. For about $600 we got:

AMD 64 3400+
1 gig
onboard GFX .

and for another $170 we got a x1300pro.

Haven't been able to test any games, but it's a sweet set up so far.


Thoughts?

depends on the quality of the components.

PSU prolly wont be up to standard.

i take it that was without a screen.

for $770 you could have gotten a lot better computer. That x1300 is ATI's latest low end card. You could have gotten a really nice 6800gs for the same price.
But at least it will be able to play games :)

just thought about it, it will have a sempron processor so :-/


definately could have built a better one for cheaper, but i suppose out of the box it's not the worst deal ive seen.

for $770 you could have gotten a lot better computer. That x1300 is ATI's latest low end card. You could have gotten a really nice 6800gs for the same price.

Yeah...you got ripped off by best buy. An x1300 is only about $100-$150.

I looked on newegg for the same one, I found it and it was 150 something. BTW it's a 256mb .

Congrats dude, pay no mind, some people hear forget that not everyone builds their own computer, or has the time; patience, and knowledge to do it.
P.S. With a prebuild PC you also have some piece of mind.

No peice of mind, as soon as he opens the case and puts that GFX card in the warranty is gone.

Still not a horrible deal though.

does it state its an Athlon? and does it have hypertransport?

and as far as i can tell 3400+ processors are strictly socket 754

It's really not all that bad. You can forget ever overclocking, but if you don't plan to it's not bad.

I think its a socket 754 because of its 1600MHz(800x2) system bus, not a 939.

No it's 939, 754s can't have dual channel RAM.
