Re: Before I make a stupid mistake....

BF2 supports dual core AMD just fine; lots of people on this forum have a dual core AMD. Absolutely no problem using 2 gigs of ram with a 2ghz processor... don't know where you got that from

Re: Before I make a stupid mistake....

Alright, well then my current two questions are:

1- If I get a 2.2-2.4 ghz AMD dual core will it use 2 gigs of ram effectively

      AND

2- What AMD processor is the best value that is 2.2-2.4 ghz and dual core (and does this exist?) becuase I am looking at this crap and I see Italy and San Diego and it makes no sence to me. Can you guys help out (again, sorry)? Thanks!

Yeah, you shouldn't worry about a dual core processor using 2 gigs of ram effectively. Or even a single core 3200+.
Any of AMD's X2 series will be a fine dual core processor. I would suggest a 3800. Tweakguides prefers the 4400... but I don't really think the small differences are worth the extra $160.

Re: Before I make a stupid mistake....

ok, dual core is out of my price range officialy....but I am glad a single core can use up the ram. so ya - ill stick with single.

edit: i will post my final system tomorrow so you guys can give me some last pointers and check for compatability (i have NO idea how that works, haha). thanks for the help again.

Re: Before I make a stupid mistake....

GHZ died about 2 years ago guys.... its the PR ratings and actual performance that matters. a 3200+ is equal roughly to a 3.2ghz P4, though even today that analogy is flawed because Intel has stopped pushing GHZ as well.

A sandiego offers more cache than a venice, thats the only difference. If you go dual core get the 3800+ because its the cheapest dually, or get the 3200+ single as its the most cost/value chip out there now. Clock speed isnt nearly as important as a video card or 2GB of ram for BF2, dont waste money on a faster CPU until you have ironed out everything else and have extra money to spend.

Alright, this is my BF2 Computer. Any final suggestions? The Final Price + Tax and + Shipping is $1,599.70. Thats the higehst I will pay, unless there is something that is crucial that I must fix with the configuration. So, as you look it over, please check for compatibility and value. Thanks in advance.

what about going with the evga combo? it saves you money. Also that monitor scares me, its an off brand and you should really look and research it before buying it blindly, image quality could suck or it may have ghosting etc...

EDIT: Also you should get a black DVD drive so it matches the case.

Re: Before I make a stupid mistake....

Ok, I changed the CD Drive to Black.

And will the combo be around in a few months when I actualy have the money to buy all this stuff?

And could you recomend a good monitor with a cheap price? Realy the cheapest 17 inch LCD monitor around would suit me fine until I could upgrade.

sigh, if your not buying for a few months, most of this information will be outdated and the prices for the most part will have totally changed. sigh....

...wow....so u suggest I just stop planning now and come back in two months again? Will it be cheaper to get around the same things in the future, or still the same price?

prolly everything you have priced now will be cheaper in about 2months, if not less than that

yep come back in two months when you have your $1600. 7900gt will be out by then and prices on other things will be a bit lower
