Ok, I have read through some of the threads. Now, I believe that this laptop will be fine, but I would like you guys to take a quick look at the specs and see if they will run battlefield 2 fine. I am planning to run the game on Medium/High (not too high) quality and play on 64 player maps at some points. Here are the specs:

System: Dell XPS 400 Desktop PC
OS: Windows Media Center Edition
Cost: 1599 USD

Processor: Pentium® D Processor 820 with Dual Core Technology (2.80GHz, 800FSB)
[Note: I can ONLY choose from dual core processors for this dell desktop model]

Graphics Card: 256MB PCI Express™ x16 (DVI/VGA/TV-out) nVidia GeForce 6800

RAM: 2GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz- 4DIMMs

Hard Drive: 160GB Serial ATA Hard Drive (7200RPM) w/DataBurst Cache™

Disk Drives: Dual Drives: 16x DVD-ROM Drive + 16x DVD+/-RW w/dbl layer write capability

And I dont believe any of the oother specs matter. Please let me know if this beast will handle BF2, and what tweaks I could make to improve the performance. My current PC is a laptop (1.8ghz and 64mb Graphics - Not enough for BF2 :cry: )...so I am hoping to upgrade, but Im just trying to make sure this thing will handle BF2 well.

yep, will run a high... I'm betting all high as long as you're not using a 1600x1200 resolution.
Most people would suggest building your own. You could get my exact computer for that price, which would be slightly better, but I would suggest going with an AMD build if you want to make it yourself.
It's really easy.. just plugging stuff in. Pretty much all of it is color coded and well-documented.

For $1600 thats pretty overpriced compared to a self build. It will run BF2 but its hardly what I would call a good deal. Im truely hopeing your getting a really nice monitor, otherwise i cant see how that comes out more than $900 ?

i wouldnt get it, i know enough about computers to know that dell arent the best compys, and my laptop is better specs than that one there, and i cant even run all high (HP by the way, ZD8000)

Haha Dell. I would never buy a Dell in all honesty. The number one computer that is serviced is a Dell. In my experience either you get lucky and love your Dell, or you get what you pay for and hate it.

Did you know? HP laptops and desktops have 1/4 the number of service records in the first year that Dell has. In all honest there really is no one oustanding notebook. They all have their fair share of problems.

Also if you're looking to be mobile with the notebook you have listed, good luck. Your battery life on something like that would be 2 hours tops. Unless you invested in a high capacity battery which costs upwards of $300 additional dollars.

What you may want to look into is a Core Duo otherwise called Centrenio Duo. It will give you battery life while still giving you performance. I know of a Sony 14" laptop that Best Buy carries for $1900 with Centrino Duo and a 7400 Go card from Nvidia. Look into something similar to this.

yeah, he is right, if you want a gaming pc dont get a dell, and especially dont get a dell lappy.

he is right about this too, if youre gonna get a any lappy for gaming, then dont count on battery life at all for more than an hour. shoot, my hp has an extended battery lifetime, and i still only get an hour and ten minutes out of it, on a good day, when im not doin anything but microsoft word, or something of that sort.

Ok, first it isnt a laptop - it is a desktop. But second, I will take your advise and I will look into self-building. What would be a good resource. I will search google, but if you have any resources, please tell me.

Is there anything you can keep from your current computer (mouse, keyboard, dvd drive0? That would save you some money. Anywho here's what you need:
-Motherboard
-Processor that fits the socket on the mobo, AMD's socket 939 houses the best cpus
-Graphics card that fits the mobo. Gonna be PCIe or AGP, you really ought to get PCIe as AGP is kinda old and getting outdated
-Memory that fits your mobo. If you get an AMD socket 939 system (which you ought to), then you will need 184pin DDR memory sticks, preferably 2 1gb sticks
-Harddrive(s) I like having XP+programs on one and games on the other... but you could just get one. Look for 7200rpm SATA drives with an 8 or 16mb cache.
-Optical drive like a DVD player
-Floppy drive
-Case to store your stuff in. Choose a mid ATX or full tower ATX that looks good to you
-Power supply (PSU) to power your computer. Needs to meet the requirements of your vidcard and fit the power connector on your mobo.
-Keyboard
-Mouse
-Monitor
-Sound card if you want it. It will take some of the processing power off the CPU and make the game sound better if you get a good one. Otherwise you will be using the onboard sound on your motherboard.

Hold on a couple minutes and I'll have a sweet comp from newegg.com at about the price of that Dell posted for you :)

Find a case that fits your taste, a monitor, mouse and a keyboard. Although if you are buying a new monitor that could push the price up quite a bit... you could go with a lesser processor if that's the case.
But It's still gonna be a pretty awesome computer :)
