Don't put 4 sticks of RAM in an AMD system, whatever you do! Your system will be forced to run at a slower speed. Get 2x1gb sticks. Geil Value or OcUK Value 2gb packs are good value if you are shopping from OcUK.

And don't ever buy a $20 PSU, I don't care if it's 700W. You try cutting corners with your PSU, you'll have one big ass paperweight. You're best off buying a case with no PSU and then buy a PSU seperately. Yes it'll cost you more, but it's a safe bet.

rymaples is correct (again... bumped into him offering wise council on another post). Most brands (these days) are marketing 'watts' as their selling point. They dont tell you their voltage accuracy sucks or wildly varies. Avoid ThermalTake PSUs, and try and get the best you can afford. ANTEC is a good brand, just try and stretch to a few extra watts if you can, they will be your friend when you next upgrade! There's an excellent read over at www.dfi-street.com forums (but they're down now... if they go live again just search for PSU guide). You don't have to pay an arm and a leg for a PSU but DON'T pay peanuts like someone else here suggested!

You should upgrade your PSU to something along the lines of 480watts, though. It will also future proof you for your next graphics card purchase. Avoid ThermalTake PSUs, there voltage quality leaves a lot to be desired! Get the best you can afford with regard to PSU.

If you want recommendations give us your budget.

Above is a very capable BF2 system!
If you want to base your system on those choices but upgrade a little then think about investing in a different case and/or upgrading your HD. The 16mb CACHE SATA drives from Maxtor are very good!


But if you want to be adventurous and mess around with a DFI board and OC then these are my recommendations (trying to stay within your £850 budget). The ANTEC case/psu bundle isn't the best looking but it's within budget and they're both well spec'd. You'd want to throw in some extra fans (AKASA Amber Silent's -look purty and are quiet):

• Opteron 146 from Ebay: £140-£200 (click prices for examples)
• XFX Extreme £240.82
• GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC3200 Value Dual Channel Kit CAS3 £135.07
• DFI LanParty UT NF4 Ultra-D (Socket 939) £99.92
• Antec Performance TX1088AMG Metallic Grey Tower Case - 480w Truepower PSU[/B] £117.50
• Your 200gb, SATA 8mb cache HD: £60.00
  
  £653.20 (excluding the opteron)

So the way I figure it you'd be spending £800-900 depending on your opteron price. Throw in a decent cooler and you might be looking at 950 including all your postage. So for £50-100ish over budget you would have an FX-53/55 capable setup. Your RAM would limit your OC and benching ability, but the CPU would fly and be a perfect match to your GT.

Personally I'd stretch the budget and go out for the Opty. Either setup will play BF2 admirably.

PS- prices on the opteron vary based on the batch. Some batches are better than others. 5 minutes on ebay n you'll get the jist of it.

PSS-
The GEIL and OcUK 2gb packs have had good feedback on the forums and supposedly use Samsung UCCC chips. This is why I recommended them. I chose GEIL because they included heatspreaders, but you could save £15 and get OcUK... they're the same chips but minus the 'brand' and heatspreaders.

i have got the 350watt version of that antec one the air filters are amazing, but i do fancy a window but antec dont do them... i dont know which case to go for. it would have to be around 20-30 but with a window and no cpu:hmm:

£49, slick case comes with 3 fans all low noise. Not too far from £35... and I can't really think of any case that's gonna come with a window, 3 fans and look this good!

Nice! Just remember tho -that psu might not be up to powering your next major upgrade to graphics card. If you can stretch an extra 20 and get an ANTEC 480 it will really help you with system stability, future-proofing and overclocking.

And yeah, that case is sick! Let us know how your pc turns out!
