Also, I assumed that AMD was better for gaming but still went ahead and did ALL my research on the Pentiums ... now I need help, I need a suggestion of a good AMD processor between the price range of 160-185$. If good means 300 bucks to ya then just name one within my price range

You smoking pot boy? JK Semprons are good once you add all the fixings to them. Such as 512 extra ram for the existing 256 and a good video card.

dude if you told him to get a Semprons you would be stupid. 64 bit tech is right around the corner. Get a 64 bit prosser if you don't want to get left behind.

Not everyone's got money for buying the latest systems. Besides the Sempron runs BFV pretty well. 64 bit is around the corner but who wants to buy $600 dollar tech when in two more years you can get it for $200,IMO.

CHill fellas :p Id rather spend the money now and get a good process and vid card ... the rest can be upgraded at will... Just as a side note ... the people on this site kick@$$ It took me 2 weeks to get an idea of what kind of comp to make ... in the last 10 minutes I have a totally new comp wrote out on paper :p ... very nice

Btw ... how much Power supply would be good for this build ... if AMD runs hot then i Assume it needs more power than others

BAD IDEA!!! IBuyPower and CyberPower are the same company and i had an extremely horrible experience with them. I ordered an A64FX55 ( highest end back then) on an Asus A8nSLI MOBO but when i got the PC i could not even boot it up. It kept crashing and would not even load up windows. When i called tech support, they just kept hanging up on me. After long hours on numerous forums, the problem was pin pointed to 1) ****ty $15 PSU which could not power up an FX processor with a RAID 0 config and 2) screwing up when placing a heat sink on the proc. This is my short story. To read all my frustrations with cyber power you can go here. http://forums.pcper.com/showthread.p...3&page=1&pp=15 ( that thread stared out talking about something but very quickly turned into why i hate cyberpower)

                        also,

if you are getting an A64 rig then you will a new MOBO anyway. P4 and A64 are not compatable with each other. you need a socket 939 MOBO for the A64.

Now as for why AMD is better than Intel is because AMD A64 processors are new and Pentium 4 are not. Intel has changed their Pentium line very little since P3s. They added a new instruction here, higher and higher and higher clock there but nothing too significant. If you are buying the regular P4 then you are getting old tech with just a higher clock speed. AMD, on the other hand compleatly reingineered their processors and introduced the A64. The most significant thing they did was replace the front side bus with the hyper transport ( which means more bandwidth between the MOBO and the CPU) and intergrading the memory controller in the processor. We all know what RAM does and how important it is so i won't need to explain that. Baisicly when a P4 needs to access something on the RAM it needs to send a request to the north bridge ( a chip on the MOBO), which then talks to the ram. The ram then sends what ever back to the north bridge from where it is then sent to the CPU. AMD eliminated the middle man. The CPU now talks directly to RAM and thus can access it much faster, which is extremely important for games! Again as some one mentioned, Another reason A64 are better is because they can work at 64bit. Of cause this does not mean they process twice the amount of data per clock right now since you need a 64bit app to tap into the 64 bit performance but windows Vista, which will predomenantly be 64, will and so will all the other programs that will soon come out. I think UT2007 will be 64bit too but i could be mistaken.

Again, i recommend 1 GIG of ram. I would have said get something with low latency such as an XMS but when since you are on budget even Value Ram will do. Just dont exept to overclock much. You may look into a better vid card. x800XL maybe.... Its around $250 but is still the best bang/ buck. I would also recommend that you definitly get a higher HDD. 80Gigs is not enough for anything. I have around 300 Gigs now and i'm running out of space. Once you start getting into vids then it will eat up all the space on the HDD.

sorry for any gramatical errors in my post. Its late and my brain is shutting down. feel free to ask more questions tommorow

dont build a new system unless u get atleast a gig of ram, a SLI mobo atleast a 3200+ and atleast a 6800 gt. and I wouldnt build a new system unless i was getting an fx 57 a 7800 gtx 512 and the top of the line asus sli board and 2 gigs of ram, so save ur bucks and get a good pc

YES, i finally managed to log back in. that long post by KUL post was me.

thats a good example for a budget PC. I'm sure it will play BF2 on MED settings but if i were yo i would have spent more on the MOBO and gotten an Asus A8V from some other more prestigious MOBO manufacturer such as Gigabyte, DFI, etc.. I think i also read that Patriot ram can be unstable and cause crashes but i guess if you ran MEMTEST 88 for a day and it did not crash then your ram is ok. Getting a separate sound card was also a good idea. Onboard sound cards can take up to 30% of CPU resources which cause HUGE drops in performance.

This is what i'm getting for Xmas:

                              AMD 4800 X2
                              2GIGS of Corsair XMS
x800XL ( my weakest point but will be upgraded SOON)
                              CoolerMaster WaveMaster case
                              500W PSU
                              2x Hitachi 160Gigs in Raid 0
                              Asus A8n32 SLI Deluxe

of cause my budget is over $2000 :) But i'm a serious gamer and worked hard to earn that!!
