How am I wrong? I didn't say that two 6800 were better than a 7800 in that qoute. If you're so nitpicky on details then pay attention to every word in the sentence. I said " And sure, two midrange cards in sli will be beat BY the best card on the market". Not that they would beat a single, that they would be beat BY a single. =P

I bought an X2 and it wasn't under the pretentions that it was the best gaming cpu. I bought it because I do a lot of things at once. I have about 5-8 programs open at once and it's nice going from one to the other without any sort of lag at all. And now since I oc my X2 to 2.8GHz, it is considerably faster than the stock and all my cpu benchmark scores prove it.
I think it's pretty much common knowledge that dual cores aren't going to make a difference in gaming as of now. And also, there's not enough of a negative impact on having dual core for games to not consider it. You can't tell the difference between a dual core and equivilant single core while playing. Once you go dual core, you won't go back. The available power is just so nice. I don't regret for a single second buying an X2.

Thanks for that post rymaples. All the talk I've been reading about how "a dual* core will be good enough for gaming but just not as good as a single" worries me because it's such a big investment. I have really high standards about how my computer should act and I think that only a dual* core will satisfy me. But the fear of a peformance drop in games is throwing me back to the beginning. Luckily I have TONS of time on my hand to do the research. Always best to hear firsthand accounts though.

Jofaba, don't worry about a dual core not giving you good performance in gaming. It's on par with the rest of the single core cpus. You should see if anyone lives near you with a dual core cpu and go see first hand how they are.

New nvidia drivers take advantage of both cores. Plus overclocked, a 4400 is a much wiser investment than a FX57, FX55, or a 4000+ is.

As far as two 7800's, as long as you use high resolutions (1600x1200+) plus u use AA/AF, you will notice a big diference (almost doubled) if u use small res, and no AA.... you're wasting money.
