Hm, I've been thinking about changing my AGP aperture size from 64 to 256 but I can't. This pc was originally a HP computer, just heavily upgraded. I haven't touched the motherboard or processor yet, but it looks like I need to. Does anyone know how to change your aperture size if it's locked in bios?

Which is why it's a great brand. Less expensive for a great product.

If you can't change it in bios then you can't change it.

Yeah, opterons are REALLY good at ocing. Espeically if you get the CABYE or CABNE stepping, they have gone from 2ghz to over 3ghz on stock cooling (over 50% increase).

I have no idea what your issue could be.....I have a 3 yr. old Gateway w/P4 2.6 on an intel board w/ 1.5 gigs of Infineon 333 ram w/ X850 Pro running high settings. I get decent frames w/ that computer. W/Antec True Blue 350.
              My main gamer is:
              P4 Prescott 3.2HT(o.c.'ed to 3.4)Zalman 7000 (56c Load)
              Abit IC7-g w/active NB cooling
2 Gigs Corsair XMS 3200 matched (o.c.'ed to CPU)
              250 Gig Seagate Barracuda
ATI Radeon X850XT PE (570/1200) w/ Artic Cooling
              Maddog 500w PSU
Antec Lanboy Case (modded for extra intake and exhaust)
              Artic Silver 5 on everything
And I am extremely pleased w/ my Vid card.
Have you tried turning off your FAST WRITES in the CCC? What drivers are you using?

In BF2, there is a big difference between a 6600GT and 2x512mb 7800GTXs. BF2 is for our time, gfx card dependant.
I'm sorry to say, but you're wrong. I have read numerous articles stating the opposite. Most recently, an article comparing 28 CPU's all using the same 7800gt.
                http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu...cpu-games.html

They proved BF2 increased with more CPU, not GPU. Games like CoD2 though were the opposite, all the CPU's ran the same speed with the test settings...showing GPU dependence. FEAR was another game they said it didn't really matter about your CPU(new of course), it was all gfx card making the higher fps's.

BF2 is CPU dependant because of the multitude of calculations it must make for each bullet, each person, etc etc etc...your gfx card does not handle these processes.
And as far as graphics go, it is NOT the lastest and greatest...though I think it looks incredible.

In fact, it answers the guys original question, qhy can't he play with the settings he wants? Because his CPU needs upgrading.
I'm NOT saying it doesn't matter what gfx card you have, you still need a good one, I'm saying the CPU makes MORE of a difference. Enough to be called CPU depedant, and not GPU dep.

Mrbucket, I'm currently using catalyst 8.11 (did a clean install) and the problem doesn't go away.

Well, I think I'll spend more on a new motherboard and cpu. Opterons are nice but there aren't any AGP compatible socket 940 motherboards in production. So bleh, I think I'll go with an AMD64 3200 or 3700. Thanks again, any suggestions on the CPU? :|:

OMG, i have said this too many times, the GPUs are too slow to keep up with the CPU. Look at like the second sentence of that post "No man, the GPU is everything, cause actually the GPU bottlenecks the CPU.", i just said right there. So in order for the CPU to perform at max capability, u need a WAY better GPU: http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu...-games2_3.html
Once you turn the settings up to actual settings that gamers use and not pure speed settings, the GPU bogs down the CPU. Please, next time, read posts before u post.

Don't worry man, you are right and they are wrong. The only time the CPU would become the bottleneck is at very low settings and res. The GPU is the bottleneck at high res until you move to an SLI system.

                                :hmm:

So they basically contradict themselves from the previous article...looks like I should go re-read some of those articles more deeply.

I'll admit, the writing abilty of the author leaves much to be desired.

So we have lo-res = CPU limitation, hi-res = GPU limitation. It seems the article was written for nothing then...as if they made the same error in judegement I did, and wrote the 2nd article to address this.
