Well, first off, download the new catalyst drivers 5.11 at ATi if you havn't done so already. Then, instead of enabling AA in BF2, go to the catalyst control center and enable it from there, same quality, but you get better fps.

Hmm, I'll try that. I am running 5.6 Drivers I believe. I'll let you know if I see any improvement!

its more than enough... i have a radeon 9600 256mb, and runnibg with all on high, AA on 2x, drawdistance at 100% and resolution at 800x600

WOw, those are old, those are back in June (the 5 in the drivers means 2005, and the .11 means the 11th month, November, so the 6th month is June). Those were the drivers that originaly came with my vid card that i bought in June. I had problems with my vid card back then (freeze at BF2, CTD etc.)

I can't get the AA, and AF to apply to BF2. I unchecked "Let the application decide" is there something else I need to do? Also, the 5.11 WDM crap or whatever wouldn't install. Any help will be appreciated!

We've been through this enough. Until you get SLI your GPU is the bottleneck, or if you play at really low resolutions with no AA and AF.
you didn't read the story behind my post.
the other guys said HTT*multiplier is cpu speed.
              I said it's FSB*multiplier is CPU speed

And about the memory divider, I don't want to use that, many many problems already reported with that, it doen't work perfectly because sometimes the timing mis match, wich will cause instability

Yeah, you uncheck let the application decide, and then you put the AA to 6xaa on the slider. Plus, it doesn't SAY in BF2 that you have AA or AF, you jsut do, the cataylst control center overrides the aa in the game, and makes it 6xaa.

What the heck do you mean? The memory on an A64 is always running on a divider. Thats how it's set up.

There is no FSB per sé with A64, a FSB is the interconnect (Memory controller) between CPU and memory and being as the memory controller is now part of the CPU on A64's there is no need for a FSB. Memory can run at any Divider without any performance penalty on A64 and for the record memory timings have ZERO impact on whether you can run a divider. And as far as bottlenecking... well you'd need a pair of 6800 or 7800's in SLi mode before cpu clockspeed has any significant impact on framerate.

Seems to be correct, but you gotta show us some pics of that killer rig you got.

I would suggest staying with 5.10 drivers.

I tried the 5.11's, and while my 3dMark score did increase by almost 100 points, BF2 seemed to suffer from excess tearing, and flashy graphics.

Going back to 5.10 made it good again. The 5.12 drivers are coming out in a few weeks anyway, hopefully they will fix the tearing/flashing issues I experienced.

comparing fps, both seem the same for BF2...so go with the better of the two :)

yea i got 1 question...if I get a dual core 3800+ and a 7800GTX would be able to run bf2 and all the other games out right now on high?
second should i wait for the prices to drop for the 7800GTX 512 version and buy it or just get the 256 that I was planning on getting? is the 512 really worth all the extra money

thanks I really need help i'm in a bit of a toss up

Yes, to all of your questions. The 256mb gtx will play all the games on high, but you should wait for the prices to drop on the 512mb version, because it's even faster.
