Yeah, ATi at least considered one thing, overclocking, their new, better core (R520) is way better for overclocking than the R4xx series cores.

Oh, the X1800XL is now only 35 bucks more expensive than the cheapest 7800GT, so thats a good sign.

Um, 7800GT > X1800XL, you know that right? Don't look at overclocks that other people get and say its a mad overclocker. Most of the insane overclocks were with phase-change cooling or LN2, but of which give -100*C temps.

I wonder if I can get enough Liquid Nitrogen to run BF2 for 2 hours...

Try overclocking that with stock cooling and you'll get your ass handed back to you. The cards run SO DAMN HOT its freakin unbelievable.

Good luck... With crossfire you can't mix cards, ie:- The x1800 xt master card only works with x1800 xl and x1800 xt, similarly the X850 master card only works with X850 XT/PE and X850 pro.

We all know that, but still, i never said the X1800xL is better than the 7800GT, and that's exactly what your saying, you're saying that i said X1800XL>7800GT, which i never said, i just said that it overclocks better, but that might still not be able to make it equal with a 7800GT.

I never said that you said X1800XL > 7800GT. Thats what I'M saying... now that we have that settled...

Just because a card has overclocking potential under dry ice, doesn't mean that it will overclock worth crap in a regular household. The X1800s run SO hot at stock speeds that that becomes the limiting factor in the overclock. You know how you stop overclocking when the CPU or GPU gets too hot? Well, this card comes "too hot" AT STOCK. Yea, it has overclocking potential. And if you can afford to play BF2 for a couple of hours every day for a year, using LIQUID NITROGEN to cool your videocard...then all hail you...but as for the rest of us, that can't afford that, we have the 7800GT/GTX which run quite cool and can still be overclocked pretty freakin far.

The X1800XL can overclock better than the 7800gt at both with stock cooling period.

I wonder if the 7800GTX 512mb will be cheaper than this. If so ATI is going to have a serious problem on their hands, since the new 7800 has such insane clocks.

U think i'm a fan boy, than you're an idiot, if i were to buy one of those cards it would still be a 7800GT. WHy, it's cheaper, and it does better in everything except for 3dmark05 (i have no idea how the X1800XL is better at that). So don't say that, you don't even have the reputation around here to back it up.

Yea, but I have reputations in many other places to back it up. And ask the people I've talked to here, I know what I'm talking about.

3DMark05 does better with ALL ATi cards when compared to comparable nVidia cards. Only thing that matters AT ALL; Real-world performance.

wrong. crossfire is out. the x1800 is crossfire ready. in truth they just pulled ahead. 2 x1800s would smoke 2 7800s. and in reply to that one guys post about dual 7800s beating 1 x1800. duh? but can they beat dual x1800s? no.

                            sorry for the double post......

that is why places like toms hardware guide dont simply rely on just 3dmark05 and 03. they run several games too. ATI almost always wins in Half Life: 2 and Nvidia Almsot always wins with Doom 3.

you are sooo wrong, everyone who ive talked to with an X1800 XL has got it to the MAX the driver OCer allows (which is like 570 and 600 mem not sure on that) the only difference between the XL and THE XT is cooler, voltage and mem, the mem you can't do anything about but the cooler is a simple upgrade and voltage is adjustable through software (ATI tool) with that changed it can go too and past XT clocks and for around 400-420 dollars you could have basically an XT which whoops on the 7800 GT. (BTW X1800 XT can reach 700 on stock cooling) http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...ad.php?t=79264 on this link the owner of the sapphire card got his XL to 695/1604 on air cooling... im sorry but that would sure as hell beat a 7800

Just wait till the 7800gtx 512mg comes out, that thing is gonna smoke a xl or xt, and sli will still own crossfire.
