I've never heard of an XP "burning out" whatever you meanby that.

I think what he means by "burning out" is them overhearting and then breaking...

Now you look for a processor that uses that socket, what else?

K scratch that, get a new motherboard THEN get a new processor with the new socket. Get an AMD Compat motherboard, socket 939, and get like a 3200 Venice core.

PGA370 socket.

That socket is for a Pentuim Celeron... It can only support up to 1.4Ghz, Its enough to get BF2 running, but not on high by any means.

Socket 370 (also called PGA370) is a PGA socket originally designed by Intel for Celeron Mendocino family of processors. These Celeron processors were produced in Plastic Pin Grid Array (PPGA) package at speeds 300 - 533 MHz and had 66 MHz bus frequency. For the next line of Pentium processors, i.e. Coppermine Pentium III and Celerons, Intel elected to use the same socket 370. Coppermine processors used different type of package - Flip Chip Pin Grid Array (FC-PGA), and they were not pin compatible with PPGA processors. A few pins on FC-PGA processors had different functions than on the PPGA CPUs, this was enough for new processors not to work in old motherboards. FC-PGA processors were produced at speeds 533 - 1400 MHz and had bus frequency 100 and 133 MHz.

Yea, only would happen if your fan dies and you dont notice or your OC'ing your CPU way too much...

I think you would have better luck going to a garage sale to find a cheapo P4 or AMD that someone is basically throwing out. Then go from there, buy your upgrades. Old computers all have the same problem- they keep getting older 10 times faster everyday than one that has been around for at least 3yrs.

No semprons are better because they have a better architecture and on-die mem controllers. I've never heard of an XP "burning out" whatever you meanby that.

I am a tech I have an A+ Certification and a 4.0 in college for computers/networking from Kaplan. I know a lil about what I am talking about. Semprons are better than XP! They are called the thouroghbred for a reason! XP has a reputaion for overheating, I should know I have replaced many! That is what I meant by burning out! Hey if you ever need your computer fixed I will fix it at the shop I work at for the 90.00 dollars an hour they cahrge and the 35 an hour they give me to work for them.

I am a tech I have an A+ Certification and a 4.0 in college for computers/networking from Kaplan. I know a lil about what I am talking about. Semprons are better than XP! A+ is not really anything to brag about. I'm not syaing semprons are worse, I agree that they are better, I've just never seen AXPs burn out without running insane amounts of voltage throught them.

Yes, it should be able to run. Not at all that good graphics, but run. Yes.

Your vid card would be the main thing you would need to upgrade. BF2 isnt that CPU "hungry" but it would be good if when you upgrade you get over a 2.7.

Honestly your wasting time and effort w/ your door stop. Pick up a paper, look in used computer area or garage sales w/ listing's of what they have. You would be surprised what people are "getting rid of". Shoot for less than 3 years old on a system. Dont get it without firing it up at the place your buying it! Check the info on computer. Worst case senerio, you spend $20-$50 bucks on extra parts. I have done this 5 times and came away with 3 kickin computers and sold em for $100-$200 dollars. My rig is not any of these, but i cant tell you how much fun it was to tinker around w/ these parts and trying to get a better product than what i bought for $20. I only wish i didnt wait till i was 28 to start this hobby.
