Yea but ATI's Crossfire will beat that, its been proven to be almost double the performance with 2 cards. However they are having lots of graphics errors and glitches so we wont know for sure quite yet.

They've got the whole series and the new architecture expliantions at tom's hardware. Also a bunch of benchmarks with a 7800GTX thrown in for comparison.

Unlikely, especially at very high resolutions, considering the 1600x1200@60hz Maximum that crossfire has, SLI would still be the way to go for hardcore gamers, no matter how powerful the x1800xt is

Yeh, but on 1024x768. Now why would you have a 7800GTX and play on 10x7?? exactly, you wouldn't. If you were to scroll down you'd notice at 1600x1200 the GTX beats the x1600xt, espicially with AA and AF.
You should also know that Half Life 2 and ATi cards are very good friends. Its similar to Doom 3 and nvidia.

nah the nvidia will still pawn ATI sucks nothing but trouble when i buy one. Im a nvidia fan and always will be.

And they get 85 FPS? I run it 16xAF and 4x Supersampling TAA and get over 90 constant. They also run better RAM and a better processer than I do.

Better ram and better processor don't matter in BF2. Better ram=better CPU overclocking, more ram=better BF2 performance. BF2 don't care about the processor at all, just get it over 2.6ghz for intel and 2600+ for AMD and you're running fine. BUt other games like F.E.A.R. will utilize the CPU a lot more. Oh, also half-life 2 dosn't care much about CPU either, and it's been known for like years. ATi dominates on Half-life 2, a X800XL beats a 6800Ultra on that game. It's not too surprising to me. BUt nvidia owns Doom 3.

I must say that although the cards and the features/technology they contain are very impressive, their performance seems to be too little, too late.

Can somebody tell me. Apart from the Crossfire option (which incidently i will not able to afford) are these ATI X1800 series cards superior to the likes of a X850 XTPE.

Way higher clock speeds, like 700/1500mhz instead of X850's 540/1180. It competes with the GTX, the X850 series certainly can't do that.
