Had multiple AMD processors and every one of them was a nightmare so i have to go against the flow and say Intel. Plus Intel's customer service is better too :P

This is funny. People dont realize how much resources Intel has over AMD. They got ALOT and can produce more processors than AMD. There is a market for intel and a market for AMD. Gotta understand that both CPUs are applied sorta differently for applications. Intel still has a strong share of the market,with AMD slowly eroding Intel.

This CPU generation(Prescott P4's with 775, Pentium D, AMD Athlon 64/FX/X2), gaming DEFINATELY goes to AMD, but for non-gaming, Intel still wins the heart of people. Why? Reliablity is what sells in the OEM/non-gaming market, which is at least...say 2x+ bigger than the gaming industry? AMD is only catching up to Intel in terms of market share, but as I stress again, the next product releases ("Pentium 5 with improved dual core" and AMD's M2 socket + DDR2) is predicted to bring the competition levels back to good times like when it was P4 vs AMD Athlon XP (esp in price vs performance).

I cant believe it...yet another AMD Vs Intel standoff!

Although there has been some very good points made throughout this thread, the fact is that both Intel and AMD make very good processors and are both pretty much sharing technology between themselfs anyway. All this is great for us as they are constantly bouncing off each other with new and better processors.

We all attach ourselfs to a brand, but dont think cause another company makes a similar product its going to inferior. Its been widely proven that AMD are gaming chips and Intel are Business chip but its also been proven that they can do both as well as each other.

the problem i kno for amd is that it overheats alot and when ur computer is overheating ur gameplay goes down down down...ive had that experience

Good for media encoding

Better at: office software, compression/decompression, gaming, basically everythign else.

For $200 you can get an intel 3.4 ghz. For $200 you can get an amd 3400+ which will kick the 3.4 ghz butt.

The ONLY reason intel sells better is because of their ghz system of measuring performence. Everyone thinks ghz = performence(not true) and intel has done its best to keep this myth going. However Intel is now trying to battle the myth that AMD has been for so long. Intel cant go over 3.8 ghz without the processor using ridicoulous amounts of power. Making it inefecient/unstable.

Just as pentium 4 completely outclasses Celeron processors, AMD 64's completey outclass them.

AMDs are far better temperature wise now. My Venice 3500 doesnt ever go over 45C with stock HSF and in a hot room when gaming. I have seen it as low as 36C. Then again, peak electric useage is only 67watts max which is very good for such a powerful CPU. With cool n quiet on, the CPU can drop to 1GHZ when Idleing using far less power. Good idea AMD.

Intel:
Pro: Great with media.
Con: Bad with overclocking and heat issues.

AMD:
Pro: Awesome for gaming.
Con: People will buy intels more often as their GHz rating system makes their processors look better.

For the most part.

3000+ = 3.0
3200+ = 3.2
3500+ = 3.5
3800+ = 3.8
