    Re: AMD or Intel?

just built a whole new system

    my original rig was:

3.6GHz Pentium 4 (i thought it was a monster of a CPU, and stil is a guess)
x800 XT pci-e (a hell of a gaming card still, but i wanted a change)

my new rig featured in my sig.

AMD X2 4800+ (this thing is like Godzilla compared to my old Intel)
eVGA 7800 GTX (wow... no words, its a warhorse of a card)

but, AMD does (at the moment) stand head and shoulders above intel for gaming and processing. go for AMD dude.

dont over look the Sempron 64's if you are on a budget. They OC by huge margins.

Stock speed on this CPU is 1800, I'm running it at 2400 @ 1.45 volts. YOu can get these now in socket 754 for about 90 bucks, another 50 bucks for a Chaintech VNF-250 board, 2gb of ram for another 200 bucks, and you should be set.

lots of extra money?? Where do you get that from.

AMD doesn't really need to use DDR2 and likely won't for a while because A64s have an on-die memory controller. In simple terms, it increases the memory bandwidth and makes it faster, especially for gaming.

Oh, and I recommend AMD for gaming as well.

theres a decent review of the newest AMD CPUs, should give you an idea of how they run.

                        Re: AMD or Intel?

in gaming the fx-57 is the fastest, but when it comes to rendering power, and hard computing, it runs neck and neck with the higher x2 chips.

                              *points at Intel and laughs*

Intel = Video editing because of hyperthreading

AMD = Gaming becasue of onboard memory controller, so instead of the Northbirdge running the memory at slower speeds the CPU runs the memory faster

                                Re: AMD or Intel?

You people are crazy. Let me give you an elementary class in computer parts.

AMD makes great chips for a cheap price.

Intel makes comparable chips for a higher price.

Intel has DDR2, AMD does not. DDR2 is faster than DDR.

Intel can sport better/faster motherboards compared to AMD compatables because the memory controller is located on the MOBO and not on the processor, thus letting every manufacturer make their own innovations.

Intels are renowned for their stability.

                                AMD's are not.

If he has the option between buying an Intel processor and motherboard, as compared to AMD and.. everything else. He will actually save money and most probably INCREASE performance by buying an Intel processor and motherboard.

PS. I'm running an AMD system. I've owned two AMD systems (Thunderbird and current amd 64) and two Intel (P1 and P3)
