Did you try the uninstall method I linked to above, and several other mentioned with Driver Cleaner, as it solves most 'driver related' problems, or rather when when ppl have too many different drivers cluttering the system.

I had same thing with my 9600 xt right from day one it never worked right, always crashing even when I am not playing a game. 250 bucks down the drain and unfortunately I am using the 5200 gforce cause its my back up. I will never buy ati ever again. I tried omega drivers but it did not help. Search google for ati vid card crashes and you will find tons of buyers who have out of the box duds too. Sucks cause I am Canadian and so is ATI but I will not be a sucker again.

85% percent of peoples problems are user related NOT hardware related,Just uninstalling the drivers in Add/Remove is NOT cleaning out the drivers(run Driver Cleaner once and you'll see whats left after "uninstalling") and truly the ONLY real way to switch out GFX cards as I said before is to FORMAT.This would not necessarily apply to upgrading from the same company but if your crossing over Format and I garauntee you will have no issues with GFX

I have the X800xl and I hate it...Runs other games fine. I get about 70fps on HL2 maxed out 1600x1200 but with bf2 I'm running low everything and it frequently drops below 20fps. I have tried everything including a wide variety of drivers and I even bought a VGA fan for my pci card that runs @ 3500rpm. Its not my computer (p4 3.2 2gb of ram). I played on my other computer a few days ago that has almost identical specs except with a radeon 9550. It ran at medium settings averaging 50fps with it never dropping below 30 which really ****ed me off. It makes me think I got a defective card, but I dont understand why it runs other games fine. Can't wait to get some dual 7800's.

4. I'll hook it up to a new power socket, but I DON'T think that's the issue. Is there a application I can download to see how much power my PC is using?

I don't know of anything that can give you power readings software wise. I would definitly hook up the additional power socket though as it does need that if you are talking about an additional power input on the card. In general that generation of cards was said to need a 300Watt PSU. Now some claim they can run them on lower rating PSU's but I have heard of people who had lots of problems until they upgraded their PSU to a higher rating.

Check this and all the other advice in the thread and I am sure you will sort your problem.

I got the the exact same video card as you, I didn't even bother manually installing drivers and the game works perfectly fine for me on medium/high.

Do you have the new patch, it gets rid of memory leaks that do exacly that.

Is your g card compatable with your mother board?

Do you have enough memory?

Instead of using the ATI drivers, try going to the Omega drivers. It fixed many of the problems I was having with my 9600 XT.

here an x800 card to, no probs here.

Use 5.7 or 5.8 drivers

I actually heard that rolling back catalyst version to 5.6 worked for some people.

That happens to me some days, it happens once an hor for about 3 consecutive times, i get frustrated, but no big problem, not as bad as constant lag, or freeze screen and i have to manually reset my comp, those havn't happened ever since i got rid of the 1.01 patch.

im using an x800xl with the 5.7 drivers, and the only problem i have are sometimes ugly shadows.

but i dont care about shadows too much anyway.
