Nvidia isn't all it's cracked up to be! Proof!

There is some new news stating that Nvidia cards aren't quite as good as any others. Turns out that Germans have proven that Nvidia optimises their cards to lower the quality of anisotropic filtering, therefore increasing the performance to what may appear better than ATI's.

I'm not treating this as fact, but a few friends I've known say that when they reverted their 6800's drivers back to the older versions without the shimmering effect of AF, they would lose performance on Doom 3 (dominated by Nvidia cards) down to levels below the Radeons.

I'm just saying for reasons of comparison.

EDIT - I would assume that you have an Nvidia card. If you really want to try it out, try adjusting the Anisotropic Filtering of your card to max for BF2, and tell me the honest decrease in performance, as well as if you notice a difference in image quality.

This has been a long argument wayyyy before BF2 even came out or anything for that matter. ATI's cards now have an option to switch something like this on. Basically what happens is if the object is in the distance, its rendered using low textures (since you can't see anyways) then as you get closer the card will pop in the higher textures. It increases benchmarks and FPS.

Personally I could give a **** less. ATI and Nvidia are about on-par with eachother, its just a matter of whom you prefer more. I am completely indifferent. I have run both Nvidia and ATI and can't complain about either company.

Dude, I'm simply trying to bring in another view or opinion. But saying "dumbest post" when your post had barely anything to do with this topic is completely out of line.

Just for your information, as I can see you didn't notice, I was stating how I found a news source which claims that Nvidia is optimising their cards to produce a lower effect of anisotropic filtering, at the gain of performance. No, I am not treating it as pure fact, as even I have some doubts, but as I said, it's simply a different view. What I've gathered from your post there though, is that you think I'm trying to say the new ATI cards are gonna be better. Did I say ANYWHERE "new ATI cards" or anything about the new ones AT ALL.

Seems like you've misunderstood the "dumbest post" I wonder what you would have to say for yourself then!

Guys he is just showing you what he found, its not like he wrote it, so stop flaming in the damn topic. Repect others opinions, and answer politely.

Ok now to the point, i looked through the article, and they dont really have much proof to prove their point, i think they are probably just hypothesizing at the moment by the sounds of the article, but keep us updated and see where this turns out. BTW i have an Nvidia card myself. :)

Just look at their "3dCenter" source and you will see plenty of videos with proof, which clearly show that Nvidia cards with full AF are not as good as ATI cards with half, visually speaking that is.
