    I would like to see him put some kind of proof up. Anyways trying to save a couple $$ to get a new MB and cpu.

    I don't know if i should stick with AM2 or move over to AM3. AM3 would mean i would also need some new memory.

    Does anyone know what kind of benefits you get with ddr3 over ddr2?

        Apparently, with an AMD3 setup, almost none. I base that on reviews from CustomPC magazine.

        To be honest, if you are going to make a large change, it's probably worth going Intel at this moment in time, a high end Q9550 or something.

        Then, in a year or two, we should be well into mainstream i5 and whatever AMD's response is.

            'bulldozer' i think its AMDs codename for its next chip but i haven't seen anything at all leaked about it.

            If i was in your position i wouldn't upgrade at all and if i was to move to intel now i would go second hand E8*** or Q****. Wait it out for next yr like Alex said.

                Don't go with DDR3 if you want to stay with AMD. I don't even see a rationale to buy new AMD board other than for repair or just want an AMD system with DDR3.

                I don't see a rationale of switching to LGA775 from AM2+ now. Phenom II pretty much perform well against Penryn and Wolfdale. For $189 you have Phenom II 940 and for $139 you have 720. That's definitely cheap replaceable for Athlon X2.

                The price of i7 upgrade is now down to about $500 with low-end everything. A good upgrade would still cost about $560-$600. I will probably go with LGA1366 or LGA1156 with 32nm chip in 2011 time frame.

                BTW, Bulldozer/Orochi will be an octo-core server-oriented chip. Don't bet it on desktop performance.
